Can Your Online Business Survive Without SEO?

SEO is a great thing, but can it work for your business? Here is- What is SEO, how does it work, SEO for- Online stores, online services and blogs.

For those of you a little unsure as to what SEO is, it stands for Search Engine Optimisation. This is the practice of making your website show up on Google for specifically targeted key words. If you rely on your online income SEO might be something you should consider doing.

What Is It All About?

For the most part, in order to show up high up on Google you need to practice SEO. The typical ‘Googler’ will only click on the top three results and look no further. Very rarely does anyone click further than the first page. So with that in mind you certainly want your business to be on the first page, and preferably in the top three results.

How Does It Work?

SEO is fairly complex and is only effective if you get it right. SEO involves choosing keywords which someone may search for in order to find your business. These are not just chosen randomly, there is a lot of research put into keywords including traffic and competition research. Though this research keywords can be chosen in order to get the best results for the business.

These key words are then taken and added to the site in the content and title tags.

Link building is then done to optimise the chosen key words for your site.  A UK SEO company would produce quality content to post on other powerful sites under similar topics to your business. This is something that is ongoing in order to optimise a key word and keep it there!

For Online Stores

As an online store the visitors that you want to your site are those looking to buy and spend money. SEO can work brilliantly for online stores. An SEO professional would look for ‘buying’ key words in order to ensure the people visiting your site are looking to spend money with you.

For Online services

SEO can work well for online services too. An SEO would need to determine with you whether it would be better to go for local search terms if you physically have to go somewhere to provide your services or national search terms if your services can be done from your business headquarters. In some cases local search terms may be better anyway as national competition may be too high. This would be determined by looking at national and local search terms and the competition level.

For Blogs

Most of us would assume someone who writes a blog doesn’t really need SEO. But firstly if you are taking the time to write your blog I’d expect you to want people to read it too. Secondly the more traffic you have to your site the more people will want to advertise on your site, earning you money out of your blog! So it is worth while doing SEO for blogs too.
