Brian Tracy in his book “Eat That Frog!  21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time” talks about eating that ugly, live frog first thing in the morning.

There is no doubt that this is a rather startling title and it definitely gets your attention. 

The title comes from a Mark Twain quote:  "Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day."

We all procrastinate about the big jobs, the difficult ones we know are going to take time and effort to accomplish….the ones we dread even starting.

When we make a list of our tasks to be done on the following day, it is so much easier to keep moving that big, ugly, difficult one to the bottom of the list.

It’s so easy to develop an attitude of, “If I get to it fine – if not …oh, well!”

The problem is that the task keeps looming on the horizon and haunting us all day…and the worst of it is that we have it hovering in the background and we really can’t be as productive as we want to be.

Did You Ever Wonder How Valentine’s Day Started?

Although there are several theories about the origin  

of Valentine's Day, the most popular one is that it all started back at the time of the Roman Empire during the reign of Claudius II, 270 A.D.

The Emperor Claudius didn't want men to marry during wartime because he believed single men made better soldiers.

Bishop Valentine went against his wishes and performed secret wedding ceremonies.  Claudius had Valentine jailed and then executed on Feb. 14^th.

While in jail, he wrote a love note to the jailor's daughter, signing it, "From your Valentine."

Sounds familiar doesn’t it?

Some interesting facts about Valentine’s Day:

• It is believed that the  X symbol became synonymous with the kiss in medieval times. People who couldn't write their names signed in front of a witness with an X. The X was then kissed to show their sincerity.
• In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine. They would wear this name pinned onto their sleeves for one week for everyone to see. This was the origin of the expression "to wear your heart on your sleeve."
• In 1537, King Henry VII of England officially declared Feb. 14th the holiday of St. Valentine's Day.

Here’s how Chocolate ties into Valentine’s Day:

• Casanova, well known as "The World's Greatest Lover," ate chocolate to make him virile.
• Physicians of the 1800s commonly advised their patients to eat chocolate to calm their pining for lost love.
• Richard Cadbury produced the first box of chocolates for Valentine's Day in the late 1800s.
• More than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate will be sold for Valentine's Day.
• Over $1 billion worth of chocolate is purchased for Valentine's Day in the U.S.

• 73 percent of people who buy flowers for Valentine's Day are men, while only 27 percent are women.

IS GOD AT STARBUCKS?

I heard an interesting and very touching story in Church today that I would like to share with you.

One of the my friends said that last week she couldn’t take her eyes off a Starbucks cup that someone had left next to the keyboard during the Service.

She kept feeling this tug at her to go get a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

So after the Church Service, she headed over to the local Starbucks to get that cup of coffee.

As she pulled out of the parking lot, she saw an older man standing by the road.

Overcoming her great reluctance to talk to a stranger, she asked him if he were cold and would like a cup of coffee.

He stared at her blankly and said, “I’m lost!”

She said, “Well you look cold.  What do mean you are lost?”

He kept repeating that he was lost.

Again, overcoming great reluctance, she invited him to get into her car. as she handed him her cup of coffee (which, incidentally, she had not sipped yet).

Since he kept saying he was lost and only that, she decided to take him to a nearby police station so she could help him find out where he was.

Who was the lost man?

Persistence is the Key!

John Maxwell spoke today about the word “Persistence”

Successful people, as John said, truly understand the word
“Persistence”.

Many people who could be very successful …the people with
the gifts, the opportunity  and the
talent ….are not successful because they quit too soon.

John tells the story of a time early in his career where he
opened his dictionary to the letter “Q” , went to the word “quit” and cut it
out of his dictionary.

He left the book open to that page and every time he became
discouraged, he back to that page and told himself that he had cut the word
“quit” out of his dictionary…there would be no quitting…quitting was not an
option.

If you are consistent and persistent, you will be successful.  As John mentioned, the smartest people don’t
necessarily become successful.  The
fastest people don’t always win. 

The people who are successful do not let circumstances
overwhelm them and force them to quit. 
They don’t let conditions control their attitude.  They determine to be in control of their
destiny.

You  could be inches
from success but if you determine to quit now you might just as well be miles
from achieving your goal.

As John said, “When you quit, time is no respecter of the
time you put in, the money you’ve put in or the energy you have devoted to
succeeding.  When you quit – you quit.
It’s all lost. “

After reading an article “Online Marketing is a Public Service” in Realtor Mag by Scott Schang, I realized that Online Marketing when handled properly can propel any business to incredible success.

Let me explain, when the housing market took a nosedive in 2007, many Realtors, including me, had to come up with a new business model for our companies.

There was no longer any money to run expensive ads in glossy House Magazines or classified ads in the Real Estate Section of the Sunday edition of the local newspaper.

The only way to reach consumers seemed to be to use free tools online like WordPress for websites and Craigslist for advertising and making a complete switch of all marketing to online.

As Scott mentions in his article, marketing online was the answer to communicating with buyers, sellers and borrowers because as he puts it:  “at that time most consumers would have picked chewing off their own arms rather than talk to a real estate or mortgage saleperson.”

Many of us struggled with this challenging, new way to market our businesses. We all scurried to learn how to build websites that were attractive yet educational for the consumer with lead generating features that would bring much needed prospects.

Today is Patriot’s Day.

Today is the 12^th anniversary of that infamous day in history, September 11, 2001.

Today we honor those who died in the bombing and those who gave their lives trying to save others.  We will never forget these heroes.

John Maxwell spoke today about the word Duty.

As John said, brave men and women did their DUTY that day to save lives and in many cases gave their own lives in the performance of their duty.

We as Americans should be proud of our country and all the people from around the country who  responded to a call from NYC for help.

Today, September 11, 2013 we remember:

* In New York, the moving tribute started at 8:46 a.m. - the time when the first plane hit the twin towers back in 2001

* Families of the victims started reading aloud the names of the almost 3,000 people who died.

* A second bell tolled at 9:03 a.m. to mark when the second plane hit the towers, then the reading of names resumed

* At the Pentagon Sept. 11 memorial in Arlington, Va., victims' families, attack survivors and military officials laid a wreath and held a moment of silence at 9:37 a.m. to mark the moment that Flight 77 hit the building

* In Pennsylvania at 10:03 a.m., bells were rung and names of passengers and crew members were read at the Flight 93 National Memorial

We will not forget but we will come back. 

John mentioned that he has a friend that says, “You are never down.  You are either up, or getting up.”

We may have been down but we are getting up and with God’s help we can get up and be stronger than ever.

 On a recent training call, mentoring and training were mentioned. 

 Unfortunately, it was not a positive comment.

 A new member of our team shared that she had been recruited and never heard from her sponsor again...she had no idea where to go to get started.

 It's a sad commentary on our Network Marketing business that this happens more often than not.

 We all started as Newbies …. some of us just took off and ran with the ball while others like me made so many mistakes and wrong decisions that it’s difficult to think about them without cringing (or kicking myself).

 I worked hard learning the ropes of advertising on Craigslist, making friends on Facebook, following a few people on Twitter, and posting on a few forums. But I truly didn’t have a clue … I was just not understanding what it took to get myself branded….and it wasn’t over yet ….along came blogging and making videos on YouTube …. I felt overwhelmed and kind of a failure.

 I realized I needed help but I wasn’t sure where to find it. It actually kind of found me when a friend told me about a company that offered tools to generate my own leads , autoresponders, mentoring and training webinars to teach me all the things I was struggling so hard to master. It took me over two years in the business but I had finally found the secret!

One with the experts who have already mastered the skills of attraction marketing and are willing to mentor you, share their knowledge and techniques and teach you to perfect them.

 The companies who promise you $1,000 checks your first week in the business are offering the fulfillment of your dreams but there is nothing to back up their claims. How do you go about earning those checks? Their software or their systems cannot train you to build relationships the first week in the business or even the second or third.

 Master the skills of making your name recognizable, share good information with your Facebook friends, your groups, your Twitter followers and develop a relationship with the people you would like to have join you in your business.

 Learning to sell is important but people are not buying your opportunity or product …. they are buying you … your personality, your expertise, your integrity. People searching for an online business or tools to help build their primary online business want to know that the person they see online is real and reliable… someone they can trust. That’s the key!

It takes time and when you don’t see those big checks right away don’t be defeated. Be persistent, be consistent and don’t focus on the money. When you think about being weatlthy, how much money do you think you would need to consider yourself wealthy?

If you asked a group of people that question you would get a variety of different answers.  One person might say you would need one million dollars, another who already has a million dollars would say that five or six million dollars would make a person wealthy, another might say it would take twenty million dollars to consider yourself wealthy.

Different answers and different perspectives!

But, John said and I agree with him completely, that Wealth is not about how much money you have accumulated.

Wealth is having the very best things in your life. 

Wealth is having the blessings of health, family, home, good friends, your faith, and your attitude. 

These are the things that money cannot buy.  These are the things that you have because you have grown and developed them to enrich your life.

It takes a lot of work to be Wealthy. 

You have to work at being healthy.  You have to work to have good relationships with your family, friends and business associates.  You have to work at growing in your faith. You have to work at believing in yourself and striving for what you believe in.  It takes work to maintain a good attitude and having an optimistic outlook.

The Scroll Marked III by Og Mandino

This is the Third Scroll from the Classic, The Greatest Salesman in the World. 

It teaches us a great lesson ...persist, persist, persist and do not quit.

It isn’t easy when you try and try and meet with defeat after defeat but you must persist and keep moving on until you reach your goal.

We, as Network Marketers are constantly facing challenges and temporary setbacks ...but the important word is "temporary" ... we have to persist until we overcome the setbacks.

I will persist until I succeed.

In the Orient young bulls are tested for the fight arena in a certain manner. Each is brought to the ring and allowed to attack a picador who pricks them with a lance. The bravery of each bull is then rated with care according to the number of times he demonstrates his willingness to charge in spite of the sting of the blade. Henceforth will I recognize that each day I am tested by life in like manner. If I persist, if I continue to try, if I continue to charge forward, I will succeed.

I will persist until I succeed.

I was not delivered unto this world in defeat, nor does failure course in my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion and I refuse to talk, to walk, to sleep with the sheep. I will hear not those who weep and complain, for their disease is contagious. Let them join the sheep. The slaughterhouse of failure is not my destiny.

I will persist until I succeed.

The prizes of life are at the end of each journey, not near the beginning; and it is not given to me to know how many steps are necessary in order to reach my goal. Failure I may still encounter at the thousandth step, yet success hides behind the next bend in the road. Never will I know how close it lies unless I turn the corner.

Always will I take another step, if that is of no avail I will take another, and yet another. In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult. 

I will persist until I succeed.

Henceforth, I will consider each day's effort as but one blow of my blade against a mighty oak.

The first blow may cause not a tremor in the wood, nor the second, nor the third. Each blow, of itself, may be trifling, and seem of no consequence. Yet from childish swipes the oak will eventually tumble. So it will be with my efforts of today.

I will be liken to the rain drop which washes away the mountain; the ant who devours a tiger; the star which brightens the earth; the slave who builds a pyramid. I will build my castle one brick at a time for I know that small attempts, repeated, will complete any undertaking.

I will persist until I succeed.

I will never consider defeat and I will remove from my vocabulary such words and phrases as quit, cannot, unable, impossible, out of the question, improbable, failure, unworkable, hopeless, and retreat; for they are the words of fools. I will avoid despair but if this disease of the mind should infect me then I will work on in despair. I will toil and I will endure. I will ignore the obstacles at my feet and keep mine eyes on the goals above my head, for I know that where dry desert ends, green grass grows.

I will persist until I succeed.

I will remember the ancient law of averages and I will bend it to my good. I will persist with knowledge that each failure to sell will increase my chance for success at the next attempt. Each nay I hear will bring me closer to the sound of yea.  Each frown I meet only prepares me for the smile to come. Each misfortune I encounter will carry in it the seed of tomorrow's good luck. I must have the night to appreciate the day. I must fail often to succeed only once.

I will persist until I succeed.

I will try, and try, and try again. Each obstacle I will consider as a mere detour to my goal and a challenge to my profession. I will persist and develop my skills as the mariner develops his, by learning to ride out the wrath of each storm.

I will persist until I succeed.

Henceforth, I will learn and apply another secret of those who excel in my work. When each day is ended, not regarding whether it has been a success or a failure, I will attempt to achieve one more sale. When my thoughts beckon my tired body homeward I will resist the temptation to depart. I will try again. I will make one more attempt to close with victory, and if that fails I will make another. Never will I allow any day to end with a failure. Thus will I plant the seed of tomorrow's success and gain an insurmountable advantage over those who cease their labor at a prescribed time. When others cease their struggle, then mine will begin, and my harvest will be full.

I will persist until I succeed.

Nor will I allow yesterday's success to lull me into today's complacency, for this is the great foundation of failure. I will forget the happenings of the day that is gone, whether they were good or bad, and greet the new sun with confidence that this will be the best day of my life.

So long as there is breath in me, that long will I persist.  or now I know one of the greatest principles of success; if I persist long enough I will win.
