Therefore, they had better aim at something high.”–Henry David Thoreau

It has been duly noted that ‘Change’ is difficult for most people. Many times it seems that our entire identity is wrapped up in that which we’d learned as children. Even as adults we tend to believe that the things learned in childhood will continue to work for us when dealing with people, allowing us to survive, thrive as well as, fit in.

At the same time there are those people who have had to learn to thrive while in the midst of change and have had to learn to be adaptable by being open to new ideas while embracing change, yet, many others have had to fight for survival and every table-scrap that came their way. Behavior is learned and it takes ‘work’ to unlearn and dismantle these old beliefs.

The truth of the matter is that a win-win is always possible. Once you are able to see beyond your ego and recognize that abundance is available, as well as, people, minds, and ideas can come together and create amazing changes that improve the current scenarios for many, many people.

“Every art and every inquiry, and similarly every action and choice, is thought to aim at some good; and for this reason the good has rightly been declared to be that at which all things aim.”–Aristotle

When you work with people who have an abundant and generous attitude, you are uplifted, the team soars, and amazing energy and creativity is unleashed.

But, at the same time this type of attitude will be much harder to sustain, and elevate within others when you encounter individuals driven by the mindset of scarcity and competition.

People such as Steve Jobs who are visionaries, have sought to bring about such mind shifts in society and in business.

Aim Above The Mark: It is often better to take the high road.

This isn’t about judging others as wrong or seeing yourself as better than others. It is about recognizing your own truth as to how you wish to BE in the world.

Never compromise your integrity.
Never get caught up in the competition.

Always see the vision, see the outcome, and feel the purpose and passion you’re driven to offer the world, then give it freely. We will all die. You will not take anything from this life with you. So therefore, give what you have to offer the world. What is not given will be lost forever.

“Don’t aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.”–David Frost

If it is your goal to truly bring about positive change and serve others, then how it will be accomplished becomes less important and seeing it accomplished becomes more important.

Though it may be a blow to your ego when others criticize your inspiration, or someone takes the credit for something you’ve introduced, holding fast to the benefits for everyone will often soften the sting. It is important to pick and choose those places where you’ll offer yourself. The key will be to evaluate whether it is serving a common good.

When you’re getting compensated for your contributions, an attitude of gratitude will serve to your spirit, peace. However, if you continually feel abused and stomped on, maybe it’s time to move on to a more collaborative team, as well as, a more receptive and appreciative audience.

Knowing that you are accomplishing your purpose and living your passion will be your reward. In time, it will be recognized.

Impostors will eventually be seen and heart & soul will always outlast the mind & ego.

Along the way, through the journey, that is your life and career, you will need to hold fast to the true inner qualities and nature of the brilliance that is YOU. Never allow these negative experiences to become something that undermines your value. You are not the negative experience! Many times, the negativity we experience from others, is more a reflection of them and less about who you are.

Since we all have different lenses, different gifts, different wiring, and different experiences. Difference will not be something to be judged, it is a gift of diversity that brings the pieces of the puzzle of life together and creates a society, a solution, a technology, etc., together for the benefit of us all.

Aim Above the Mark and never doubt yourself when others cannot see the vision you see. Some say that President Obama is failing in reviving our stagnant economy for lack of leadership on issues that matter to the American people. The persistent, growing array of scandals which plague the administration – from Fast and Furious to Benghazi to the IRS targeting conservatives and the unwillingness of government leaders to address them forthrightly only add to the confusion. Others say the president is lacking in leadership in the international arena ---“leading from behind” in world affairs.

.
Then there is the indictment of the Congress which suffers from persistent stalemate, so most meaningful legislation is stalled dead in its tracks either in the House or in the Senate.

Then there is the race issue, which raised its ugly head in the Trayvon Martin tragedy. This has been exploited by the Civil Rights leaders and the mainstream media to advance personal agendas; while the pressing issues of unemployment, unwed mothers, teen pregnancies, violence, “gangster” music and murder in the inner cities are ignored. Yes, there is a cry in the cities across the land for capable, effective, leadership. But what does that look like?

What are the qualities that distinguishes a great leader whether, politician, business executive, principal, teacher or parent? Here are five essentials as I see it.

1. Unquestionable Honesty – When I worked as a Manager for a popular national retail chain, we has a written set of core values which set the foundation for operation. Honest was a chief component. Whatever ethical plane you hold yourself to, when you are responsible for a team of people, it’s important to raise the bar even higher. Your business and its employees are a reflection of yourself, and if you make honest and ethical behavior a key value, your team will follow suit. The same is true of our civic leaders. They must be held to a high standard of integrity. Honesty must be the watchword.

The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office."

Dwight D. Eisenhower

In our communities, schools and homes we need to insist on standards, without which there is chaos.
My mother always reminded me when growing up that, “Honest is the best policy…right is right if no one is doing it and wrong is wrong if everyone is doing it.” Oprah Winfrey puts it thus: “Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.” If parents set and model high ethical standards for their children, they will most likely follow.

What would our inner cities look like if our leaders exhibited honesty and integrity in their words and conduct; and transmitted the same to the younger generation? What about our businesses, schools and colleges, sports teams and civic organizations? Would we have an Anthony Weiner with numerous outlandish sex scandals running for Mayor of New York City?

It was Albert Einstein who said, “Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.”

2. Delegation Skill – You cannot do every task in your organization. Starting at home, parents must learn to delegate the responsibilities for varies chores so their children learn to share the work, assume responsibility and work as a team. In our businesses we need to have an organized, well-tuned vision for success, but at the heart we must learn to trust our teams with that vision. Delegating tasks and responsibilities is key to success as a leader; otherwise you get overwhelmed with duties, and you get worn thin and burn out. The results are the quality of work declines along with productivity. A good leader must develop the ability to delegate.

“Surround yourself with the best people you can find, delegate authority, and don't interfere as long as the policy you've decided upon is being carried out.” - Ronald Reagan (40th US President )

To see if you "fit the bill", check out the rest of the essential qualities here.

Leaving A Legacyhttps://syndicationexpress.ning.com/profiles/blogs/leaving-a-legacy2013-07-06T07:58:30.000Z2013-07-06T07:58:30.000ZStephen Edgecombehttps://syndicationexpress.ning.com/members/StephenEdgecombe

<font face=""Georgia","serif"">Just a few days ago we celebrated the Fourth of July, marking our country’s independence from England. According to Theodore Hesbrugh, “You don’t make decisions because they are easy; you don’t make decisions because they are cheap; you don’t make decisions because they’re popular; you make them because they’re right.” As reflected in the book, “The Other Wes Moore,” choices can make the difference between heart-wrenching losses or moments of surprising redemption; from “White House Fellow and business leader” to “serving a life sentence in prison.” It all depends on which road you take when you come to the “fork in the road.” ( Every young man should read this fascinating story)

Read the rest of this blog here

Take action here today - toward establishing a lasting legacy of financial freedom, and character.

What if You Won $590 Million Powerball Jackpot?https://syndicationexpress.ning.com/profiles/blogs/what-if-you-won-590-million-powerball-jackpot2013-06-08T22:30:00.000Z2013-06-08T22:30:00.000ZStephen Edgecombehttps://syndicationexpress.ning.com/members/StephenEdgecombe

What if You Won?
That is exactly what happened May 18 to 84-year-old Gloria Mackenzie in the small town of Zephyrhills, Florida. According to USA Today, It was the largest jackpot ever in the multi-state lottery's history.

For more than two weeks Ms. Mackenzie kept the residents wondering and speculating who among them had won the Florida lottery. Under Florida law, the winner cannot remain anonymous. Now they know she was the big winner!

Ms. Mackenzie chose to receive her winnings in a lump-sum payment, worth a $370.8 million. before taxes. She did not speak to reporters, but instead released a statement that she was "grateful for this blessing of winning ...and appreciate the interest of the public."

She met her husband just after World War II; the couple retired from northern Maine to Florida more than a decade ago. He died in 2005, and she's been living in a small home with a sheet-metal roof and an old TV antenna. Now, after taxes, she will receive about $370.8 million. What a blessing ! Or is it?

If she uses the money wisely, she'll be an exception to the rule. The National Endowment for Financial Education estimates that as many as 70 percent of Americans who experience a sudden financial gain often lose that money within a few years.

For example, one couple won $2.76 million; their marriage ended a few years later, a fire gutted their house, and every penny of their fortune was gone. A man who won $1.9 million spent it all and took a job at McDonald's flipping burgers. Another man won $16.2 million, but filed for bankruptcy within a year and now lives on food stamps. Here's the worst story I found: A woman won $5 million, but when her husband learned that she gave $2 million to a secret child she'd had with another man, he poisoned her with painkillers. He was found guilty of manslaughter.

Oh, the woes of sudden riches! Yet many long for them. May be the Bible is right when it warns of the dangers of "sudden riches."
