It Is About NOT Selling!??

Hello Everyone!

I am George Pierce.  If you are familiar with my posts and videos, I often introduce myself.

Is this just an old habit?  

There is a reason.  It is called branding, branding is a form of selling called pre-sell.  It is a way of letting people know you or your product or your company.  The reason for this pre-selling is to gain trust and confidence.  People buy from people that they know, like, and trust.  

We want to get people to know like and trust us, first.  So branding is a form of selling ourselves but not making people feel as if they are being sold.

From an old-fashioned country boy's point of view. think of branding as making friends. 

Things like branding and selling yourself first, while not selling may seem confusing or daunting, it is not, but making friends is a way that you can achieve this and a way that most people can relate to.  

So tip number one for 'not selling' is to begin by making friends.

Selling works best when we do not sell????

When you actually do sell, do NOT sell the product.  HUH?  You will do your best when you sell the benefits! You may have heard that you do not sell the steak, sell the sizzle. If you will watch the above video, what is really being sold is NOT a free guide, what is being sold is time freedom.  The guide is simply a tool to help achieve this goal.

The intent of the video is that people watching this video see fun.  Fun is the HOOK that keeps them watching.  Fun with their children...Fun that they are not able to have because of the lack of time freedom... and a way to fix this.    

In a matter of seconds, this video has identified a problem, helped the viewer relate to that problem, and offered them a solution.

Problem - Solution is a standard way to sell.  As you can see, however, there is a more laid-back approach by sharing a benefit discreetly identifying a problem and matter-of-factly sharing the next step (solution).  

Benefits?

Just about everything that you or I might consider selling has features and benefits.  Features tell, benefits sell.  

A feature is a part of the product or service, a benefit is an impact that it has on your customer.

Let's say you have a T-Shirt Shop and all your T-Shirts are 100% cotton.

Cotton is a feature.

The benefits are

  • comfortable.
  • naturally sustainable.
  • Cotton supports farmers and communities.
  • sleep better with cotton.
  • hypoallergenic.
  • odor-free.
  • low maintenance.
  • Cotton isn't clingy.
  • soft
  • absorbent
  • breathable
  • considered best for babies

Buzzard's Gap 

Two of my friends, Dale and Bubba, went to the big city.  They began browsing and instantly, they see a shop that reads,

"Suits $10 each, shirts $2 each, pants $3 each".

Dale says to Bubba, looky there! We could buy an entire lot of these, take 'em back to Buzzard's Gap, ]sell 'em, and we can make a fortune!

Let me do the talkin', 'cause if they hear your accent, they might think we're red necks, and not wanna sell that stuff to us.

I'll speak in a slow Texas drawl, so they don't understand we are from Buzzard's Gap ."

They enter the store. Then, with his phony Texas drawl, Dale says "I'll take 50 of them suits at $10, 100 of them there shirts at $2, and also 50 sets of them pants at $3. I'll get my pick-up and ... "


The proprietor of the store interrupts, "You all are from Buzzard's Gap, ain't ya?"

" Well, yeah," says a shocked Dale, "exactly how come y'all knew that?"


The shop proprietor responds ...

" Since this is a Dry-Cleaners."

    I am so pleased and grateful to be living in a slow-paced part of the world and so blessed.  You cannot walk up or down the road without enjoying nature, when you see someone, there is always a wave, if not a conversation. When someone says they are going to do something, you can count on it, and a handshake is as good as a contract.  Too bad that Bubba has been citified!  Thank you, Tom.

    I always knew you were an old-fashioned country boy George (not Bubba of course). You give the game away when you speak of branding as making friends. Simple country native wit of that quality is not the hallmark of city suits and big biz hi-flyers. They are too far above the clouds to see what is real and down-to-earth. But all those who read and take on board your simple logic are guaranteed a safe and profitable landing.
