NOT YOURS TO TELL!!!

“Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.” Eleanor Roosevelt

Have you ever had a conversation with someone and they start telling you information about someone that you didn’t ask for or want to know?   Recently, I shared with a friend that a mutual friend’s daughter had passed away.  She told me that she already knew and immediately began telling me that she was addicted to drugs and had been incarcerated for assaulting a family member.  I have known our mutual friend for years and she’d never shared this information with me, probably because it wasn’t my business and still isn’t.  Yet, as she continued to ramble on, I couldn’t help but wonder how she could feel so comfortable sharing this young lady’s sorted past.  It was our friend’s family’s private business.  I remember thinking, that story is NOT YOURS TO TELL.   Why do people share information and stories that are NOT THEIRS TO TELL?   Do you know or have you known people that do this?    Do you share stories that are NOT YOURS TO TELL?   I DON’T!!!  So for this week’s blog, let’s talk SHIP about sharing stories that are NOT YOURS TO TELL!!

I enjoyed reading your Post Valerie.  I concur 100% you should never tell anyone's personal business or any business at all.  You covered the comment I was going to make.  When you spread other people's business, especially when it negative or confidential, says more about you than the person you're maligning.

Robin thanks so much. It is a peeve of mine even listening to this kind of stuff.  But it reveals who people actually are.  Thanks for reading.

I agree. Valerie.  The people that can benefit most, are probably the ones that will be least likely to listen.

This is such wisdom. Sometimes a personal would rather be a running mouth than a listening ear. And we have to always exercise sensitivity in these types of situations.

This is a wonderful message for folks to take heed. I would like to share a couple of Bible scriptures, the first one is found at 1 Thessalonians 4:11 "Make it your aim to live quietly and to mind your own business." and scripture number 2 is found at 1 Peter 4: 15 "However, let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or a wrongdoer or a busybody in other people’s matters." As you can see this is great scriptural advice from our loving God. Keep up the great writing Valerie R Lathern I look forward to your next post.

I agree wholeheartedly with the scriptures.  I dislike folks who freely share what not theirs to tell.
