One of the very best things that ever happened to me in my life occurred when I was going through one of the worst times in my life proving to me that wonderful things can happen in spite of adversity…  I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to relive it, but I will tell you, as a recovering alcoholic, no matter how bad things got for me I never even considered taking another drink…

I learned to love reading because I realized the value of an education, so armed with a head start of a 10th grade education, I had overheard some conversations where some authors were mentioned who’s works I started reading…  They included, Napoleon Hill, Emmet Fox & Dr. Robert Schuller, founder of The Hour of Power & The Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California…  These three men had such a great influence on my life, I will be eternally grateful & still study them today…  I’ve come a long, long way in my recovery, but I feel like I’m finally in the home stretch of over 30 years…

This program, “Mentoring For Free” has continuously come across my path, but I never realized how important it would become to me because I totally misunderstood the title of one of the subjects it teaches, “Think & Grow Rich”…  My thought was it was all about money…  For me, I think of riches in quite a different way…  I assimilate riches to mean a peaceful existence with much happiness being like the cherry on top…

These days my life has become somewhat of a celebration because of the success I’ve found owed to all the people who cared & helped me on my journey… I relied on my God Nudges & now at 81 I can truly appreciate that I’ll be able to complete my most important goal, the best education in my life…  I will have reached my goals & with no student debt…  I’ve truly enjoyed my journey…

I am an 83-year-old, Extraordinarily Happy Networker, Senior Blogger & Mentor in Training... I have almost 32 years of personal development and recovery under my belt... I'm a firm believer in one is never too old to learn... I've recently progressed from mourning the loss of my friend, Tom Barabas to celebrating his very accomplished life and that made me feel better... He brought so much beauty and pleasure into so many lives with his music... You can find his music videos on youtube under Tom Barabas...

I almost forgot.  I was in Mentoring For Free, and I've read 10 both excellent resources.  In fact it was Terri Pattio who told me about of these excellent resources.

I can share similar expierences Linda.  As you said I won't go into details because there are times that are too painful to relive.  And reading, I love to read, I have always loved Books.  It was my mother who always stressed the importance of reading.  There is a saying I always come back to and I teach my children and grandchildren the same, 'If you can read you can teach yourself anything'.  I've found that to be true throughout my lifetime. I used to love listening to Robert Schuller, he was very inspiring.  Another Author that I've recently read is SE member, Tom Riach, his Books are dynamite, inspirational and motivational and educational, without the price.  I don't know if you've read "The Secret World of Self Employment", I can tell you, you won't be able to put it down.

I like your Website, it's bold and unique like you.

Thank you, Robin for your support...  Your mother was so right...  Because I knew how to read I made the library my source of inspiration to learn all I needed to know about how to become successful at clowning...  I replaced drinking with something I not only enjoyed to the max but I also won awards for my accomplishments, nothing monetary but much self satisfaction just knowing I could do it!  As for Tom, he is one of my favorite authors & we are so fortunate to have him here...  I've been counting my blessings today because I received another HUGE God Nudge that made me aware of another thing I need to do for myself...  I'm restructuring again with programs that I will do well with...  I will post about them today so look for my post...  Thank you for your treasured comments...  I think we will be friends for a long time...  Have a wonderful weekend & I will also... :D

Your remark about making clowning your obsession when you decided to change direction reminded me of a good friend from my past. Her husband was a heavy drinker, always at the pub, never home. One day she told me he had turned to AA and given up the demon. I said, "So now you'll see more of him?" "No," she replied, "He's switched addiction to AA, is the district organiser and activist. Still never home!"

Tom, clowning never became my obsession...  What I learned to aid my recovery I needed to replace all thoughts of drinking with lovely thoughts of things I enjoy & then pay attention to the Godnudges as they appeared & they did...  I just needed to be able to recognize them when they made themselves obvious to me...  It's like if I told you not to look at the moon your eyes would be automatically drawn to the sight of the moon (unless it was cloudy or daytime...  It worked for me...

Tom, loved your story...  He may not be home but at least when he comes home he's sober...  :D

That is the cherry on top, Tom...  Remember I have over 30 years of recovery experience courtesy of AA...  I am forever grateful for my lifetime of learning & the people who made themselves available to teach me...   :D

Thank you Linda for sharing your blog post here in the SE community. I love reading too because Readers are Leaders. Yes the best book in the world is the Bible and the second best book would be Think and Grow Rich. I highly recommend reading both books to people all the time. There's so much education and information to help people to achieve their goals in life.
