Do You Remember Katherine Hepburn?

I have always admired Katherine Hepburn (1907–2003) and enjoy seeing re-runs of her films, especially the ones with Spencer Tracy (1900--1967).

She was an American actress of film, stage, and television.

Known for her headstrong independence and spirited personality, Hepburn's career as a Hollywood leading lady spanned more than 60 years. That is a long time.

Her work came in a range of genres, from screwball comedy to literary drama, and she received four Academy Awards for Best Actress—a record for any performer.

The legacy of Hepburn lies both on screen and off. Broadcaster Sheridan Morley has said she "broke the mold" for women in Hollywood, where she brought a new breed of strong-willed females to the screen.

A number of Hepburn's films have become classics of American cinema, with four of her pictures (The African Queen, The Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby, and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner) featured on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 Greatest American Films of all time.

"Adam's Rib" and "Woman of the Year" were included in the AFI's list of the Greatest American Comedies. Her clipped, patrician voice is considered one of the most distinctive in film history.

Hepburn has been honored with several memorials including a street, a garden, and two cultural centers with her name on them.

The video shows Hepburn in 1981 with an ailment she acquired which is not Parkinson's disease, but a progressive yet treatable neurological disorder called essential tremor. She was able to put it to use as the aging character Ethel Thayer in "On Golden Pond."

I can hardly imagine any other woman who will match Hepburn's extraordinary career and life.
