If you want to work from home, balancing work life with family sure can be challenging in this day and age. Most people are working harder and longer trying to pay the bills and keep up with the cost of living. The cost of everything keeps going up, gas, food, utilities, daycare, health and car insurance. That’s just to name a few. It’s hard to keep up and spend quality time with your spouse and children. As a result, more and more people are looking to work from home in their own business.
While it’s true that if you work from home, it can keep you closer to your family but it also requires a well-organized and consistent approach in order to meet the needs of both your business and family life. To be successful, you need to find ways to put in the time necessary to start and grow your business without being distracted by family matters. You will need to manage your tasks and optimize your time well. If you or your spouse hold a regular job, then time management will be crucial. By establishing boundaries and through careful planning, you will be able to manage your time and priorities. So your family can be an asset to your work from home business rather than a distraction.
Think about how you can split up certain tasks between you and your spouse. Make a plan, then work your plan. For example, while one spouse is at work, the other can stay at home and spend time working the business by writing and posting ads, doing necessary research, ordering products and such. In the evenings when the your spouse returns home from work, that person will take over duties such as answering any emails and making phone calls for training and prospecting purposes, while the other attends to the children and household tasks.
You can also consider recruiting your children into your work from home business. Delegate certain tasks they may be able to help you with. Perhaps your oldest child can baby sit your younger kids during certain times of the day and or evening. Maybe your children can help you with preparing items for mailing, cleaning your work space, and organizing and filing paperwork. However be warned, they may ask you to raise their allowance!

Talk with the family and come to some agreements about the importance of your work from home business. Make sure they are aware of the demands, and the reliability it places on each member of your family, as well as yourself. Make sure they understand and gain their cooperation. You may have to restrict personal use of the telephone to certain times so that your line will not be tied up during your business hours or consider having a second phone line installed to be used just for business .You can also get a free number from Google. However most people have cell phones they can use these days. Lay down the law that your family must stay out of the office space during your work hours, so you do not get distracted. Try and make it easier for them to adhere to your rules by coordinating your work schedule with your family activities, and schedule some non-business time for the family during crucial times of the day, such as meal times and when the kids get home from school. Also be sure to discuss your business schedule with extended family members and your friends. Tell them of your working hours and ask them not to drop by or call during these times when you are working on your work from home business.
Work hard to build your home business, and keep going! Stay consistent! Do not give up! Make sure the whole family is aware of what you are doing, why you are doing it and what you need of them. You will probably find that they will be willing to help however they can. The rewards will be worth it and you and your family will reap the benefits for years to come.
