According to the US Government, over $4 BILLION of unclaimed money is paid back to its rightful owners each year, and one in seven has unclaimed money that we do not know about. I am one of those "one in seven" and this post is about how you can find out if you have any unclaimed money and how to get it back, how to do it for free, and how to do it online with just a couple of clicks.
Unclaimed money is held by the state. If a business, a bank, or the government owes you money that you did not collect,
it is considered unclaimed money or unclaimed property.
You can search for and file for unclaimed money owed to you, even unclaimed money that was owed to a deceased relative if you are their legal heir.
Search by state https://unclaimed.org/
Most unclaimed money is held by state governments from sources such as bank accounts, insurance policies, or state agencies.
Search for unclaimed money from your state’s unclaimed property office. If you have lived in other states, check their unclaimed property offices, too. When you click on any of the states or territories (using the link https://unclaimed.org/), you will go directly to that state.
Click on search for property.
Enter your name and address, and hit SEARCH.
My search yielded two results. The hundred dollars was from
a computer company, and the other one was a refund of an overpayment.
The bottom line is that I had NO CLUE that there was unclaimed money in my name.
To get the money, hit claim, fill in the details, and submit.
