The baby boomer generation are now nearing retirement age or are already retired so there is going to be an increase in these people looking to boost their pensions and what better way than to work from home online !!

Baby boomers are becoming more adept at using the internet than the previous generation and what’s more those that are retired and have adult children are sometimes faced with whether they want to move into a retirement complex with other retirees.  These people are now well clued up to search for what they want on the internet.

I have a son that works with computers and although he teaches me a few things there are things that I can now teach him and it is always nice when he asks me for an answer to something !!

Many of the older generation are looking to join a retirement community online as they have so much in common, so if you are from the younger generation how do you appeal to this new internet savvy audience?  You could start with creating an internet marketing strategy that builds your digital presence and puts your retirement community in front of potential customers.

3 Tools You Will Need

When your retirement community builds an effective marketing strategy that appeals to the right audience, then there are three tools that you will need to master – SEO (Search Engine Optimization, Social Media Marketing and Analytics –

Once you have developed your retirement communit’s website – first making sure that the URL is search engine friendly, then you need to target your site’s content to match keywords for your audience.

You might be in a care home setting up a retirement community website for Baby Boomers so if that is the case you need to get yourself out there and get seen by listing your site on places such as Google Local, Yahoo local, Big Advertiser (although there will be a fee for Big Advertiser) but you need to be seen…….  Then track your keywords to find out what people are using to find you and check the number of searches you have.

Make sure you have plenty of content on your site for visitors to read and if you add value you will then get these visitors returning.

If for example you are advertising pain relief then if you can offer value and help to what people need then again these visitors will return to see more you have to offer.

You will also need a CTA (Call To Action) on your website especially if you have a product that is going to help your visitors like an eBook or video.  Sending them to a capture page is another great idea as this will then increase your email list.  Also add a sentence asking people to share and comment on your site.

The more great content you offer is going to get visitors interested in whatever it is you do and if they see you as someone who can help them then you are on your way to success.

Then We Come To Social Media Marketing

As you are probably aware, depending upon how long you have been online, that Facebookalone has over 1 billion users.  Twitter has around 170 million active users and you can bet that some of your community’s adult children are using at least one of these social media sites !  You have also got LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+ and many more social media sites ……

Facebook has a big variety of users so it is always wise to search for people in your niche to share content with.  Set up a Fan Page and share your knowledge and information on there.  Always try and comment and share other peoples status updates if you feel others will benefit from them.

This is where you will see all the trending topics and you can follow others if you are interested in what they have to offer.  You can also promote your business opportunities here …..

Pinterest

This is one of my favourites today as you can follow other peoples boards which range from animals, fashion and business.  You name it and you will find it on Pinterest.  This is quickly catching up with other well known sites.

One last word on analytics.   Google analytics is free to use and is one of the best tools you can have in your marketing business, although there are paid versions of analytics as well.  By getting detailed reports you will know where the traffic came from, what keywords were used to find you, what social media sites were driving traffic and what was shared etc.  All this can help sharpen your focus on your target audience.  It also reveals the type of information that potential customers are looking for allowing you to continue creating content that drives traffic to your website landing pages which in turn is going to increase your ROI (Return of Interest).

That’s why it gets pretty hard to single out only one marketing campaign to have the title of the best one. Everything gets even more competitive in the world we live in – one with so much great content that it’s getting harder and harder to stand out. Speaking of – what makes a marketing campaign stand out? Firstly, that surely is the impact they have on the brand. Secondly, we have provoking the emotion of wonder, shock, joy, inspiration, surprise, compassion, motivation, a sort of awakening. The campaigns we love and remember are those that are authentic, inspiring, and transcendent and with a story that successfully targets the desired audience. There are a lot of memorable campaigns we’ve loved through years and we give you some of our favorites.

We would like to start with “Dove Real Beauty Sketches” campaign. This was a wonderful social experiment that showed women around the world they are gorgeous just the way they are. As Susan Credle, who is chief creative officer at Leo Burnett, put it: “The most memorable spots don’t just make us laugh or cry. They change a conversation.”

When buying a product, just like when choosing a partner, you need to have an emotional reaction to what’s in front of you. In today’s world, a brand is highly unlikely to exist without some empathy. Timing or place isn’t everything. If there isn’t a connection between a buyer and a product, the product falls on deaf ears. The best example of this is Extra Gum’s “Origami.” As the commercial unfolds, we are presented with the image of a loving father teaching his daughter to make origami with what seem to be paper wrappers. There are several images of the girl growing up, yet the tradition of origami is still there. Viewers are still in suspense of what the commercial is about and we surely don’t expect what it turns out to be. At the end of commercial, as the girl is packing for college, the father accidentally drops a box full of origami doves the daughter saved. “Sometimes the little things last the longest.” is the voiceover closing the campaign. And… it’s for gum! Would you ever expect that level of emotion for a gum ad? Of course you wouldn’t. But it makes a point. And we love it!

Whoever failed to have a reaction to Guinness commercial of 2013 is either a robot or absolutely heartless. The commercial features six men in wheelchair playing an intense game of basketball. At the end of the game we learn that only one out of six players has an actual physical disability and that others were playing in a wheelchair just for the sake of friendship and support. After the game is over, six friends enjoy a few post-game beers, and the voiceover says: “The choices we make reveal the true nature of our character.” Wow!

A campaign that sure crushes female stereotypes is for toy company GoldieBlox. The three girls pictured in the commercial seem bored with a typical girly show they are watching on TV and are deciding to make some fun on their own. They engineer a rather thoughtful, insightful, complicated and genius system to turn the TV off – just to show they can! If you go to The GoldieBlox website you’ll read: “We believe there are a million girls out there who are engineers. They just might not know it yet. We think GoldieBlox can show them the way”. Amazing!

You Need A Marketing Plan For Your Business

You Need A Marketing Plan

Do you want to know the truth?  Most people that start an online business decide to finish it before they start !!  They are just not willing to make it work …….

The Reason ?

It isn’t because it is hard but because they get intimidated and overwhelmed by over complicating things so they just decide to stop.

If you are staying engaged and connecting with all the materials you have then you are one of the few that are going to succeed.

If you start to feel overwhelmed don’t throw in the towel.  Go back and start from the beginning again and go over it until you fully understand it.  Don’t try and run before you can walk…….  That is where people over complicate things instead of taking it one step at a time.

Setting out your marketing plan …..

1. You need to find out who you can help and how you can help them.  How can you help them compared to any of their other options?  If you can find the answer to these two questions the rest will fit into place.  A bit of help to answer these questions for you.

a)       Connect with one person and take 15 minutes to work out how you can best help them.

b)      You can then add a simple call to action and you have a reasonably good core marketing message that brings you along in leaps and bounds.

2.  Offering valuable blog content will create attraction.  The most important function of your blog is to attract and grow the audience of people who are paying attention to you.  By creating a blog this is your starting point to increase your influence and gain the KLT (know, like and trust) factor.  Research your topic, blog about it and show people that you know your topic.  If you want to know more tips about blogging I would suggest registering with Coppyblogger where they keep you up to date weekly with what’s new.
3. Email marketing is another great strategy that is going to deepen your relationship with possible future customers.  Blog content is great to grow your audience but it is not normally the best place to make a marketing offer.  Emailing your list regularly has shown to be the most cost-effective sales channel.  The reason being it is free to email and can be very effective.  If you are not emailing your list then you are missing out on the best way to convert your prospects into customers.
4. Email marketing and how to grow your business.  Emailing is a good way to nurture your lead until they are ready to buy.  This is where you need an autoresponder.  Myself I use Aweber but there are several others you can find online.  It is whichever one you feel comfortable with.
5. Special Offers or even better FREE offers are what people love !!  If you have something of real value then people will pay for it, but it is also good to offer free information on whatever it is your prospect needs help with.  They will really look up to you if you can offer them great value.  If you have the wrong offer these people are going to unsubscribe from your list so make sure it is something they need.  Again with an offer that you are selling, it has to be something these people need.  So choose very carefully …….  They want to know they are getting value for their money.  Once you have discovered what your prospect wants then you can start to structure your offer in a more appealing way.
6. Where is the best place to make your offers?  Most definitely on a landing/squeeze page.  As mentioned above emailing is a great marketing channel but some readers (myself included) find it hard to focus on a really long email and start losing interest before we get to the end …… but quite often you need to offer more information in order to give your customers all the information they need to make a purchase.  This is where a landing/squeeze page comes into focus.  It is a more streamlines, focused presentation of what you have to offer, what it will do for your prospect and what he needs to do next.  Some people get a little intimidated when wanting to create a landing page.  If you have your own product you will need to create this to get more results.  If you are offering an affiliate product you will most likely be given a landing page for the product.
7. Social Media is a great way of connecting with people.  Now that you have everything in place what is next?  Take all that you now have above and grow ……  social media platforms are a great place to start.  Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and many more ..  Start by engaging and getting to know people.  You shouldn’t need to buy a course on social media as you should know what this is.  Be the listener and find out what other people’s needs are and how you can help them.  And just be friendly.  Leave all your offers to email marketing and your landing/squeeze pages.
8. Lastly, seek out like-minded people that have been there, done it and got the T shirt !!!  You will always find someone willing to help you.  This is a great way to brush up on your knowledge.  The most important thing is for you to BRAND yourself ……..

Since computers first came into the shops they have become a part of our daily lives.  We depend on computers so much now for our files, address book, information sources, connecting with friends etc.

A well designed and executed virus can have a very disabling effect on your computer.

Computer viruses have shown us how vulnerable we can be when it comes to downloading software etc.  A computer virus is like any program; however, the goal of every computer virus is to destroy files or computer systems by spreading itself quickly to unsuspecting computer users.  So to protect your computer from these viruses, you have to be very vigilant and put up your guard against them.

The first thing you need to do is let a good antivirus program be your first line of defense against the effects of these paralyzing viruses.  Make sure you install an antivirus from a reputable source.  If you want a FREE antivirus then I would recommend Avast or Microsoft Essentials.  There are upgrades of course but the free version is very good.  Update it regularly and also use it regularly to scan your computer.  New viruses are coming out every day so if your antivirus is out of date you are not likely to get the degree of protection that you need.

There are several other free antivirus programs that you can download and these are called antivirus freeware.  These programs can secure your computer and your life, as long as you make it a habit to check for updates on your antivirus and on updates on viruses to guard your computer before any virus hits you off-guard. I can assure you it is not pleasant to have a virus and it is something that you don’t want if it can be avoided.

One of the most common forms of viruses are from online chat sessions, so be extremely careful about accepting any programs or files.  Computer virus creators are also internet mainstays !!  They are very gifted when it comes to technology and they just want to create havoc out of their expertise by creating computer viruses.  You will find them frequently online in chat rooms with the intention of generating loads of unsuspecting victims.  So beware …….

If you think you have a virus on your computer then follow the directions in your antivirus freeware or antivirus download on how to clean it and if you are not sure what to do then do not hesitate to check the online support services of the software.

One other thing, don’t be intimidated by a computer virus.  Make sure your files are backed up and you are keeping your antivirus up to date then you shouldn’t have a problem. In fact, today, viruses are not that disabling as before due to the popularity of reputable antivirus software, antivirus downloads, and antivirus online help.   So with all of this to back you up, if you get a virus it is just as easy these days to get rid of it …..  It is also a good idea to do a bit of research on the internet regarding protection from hackers and viruses where you will find extra help if you need it.

How do you target a less thought of group like Baby Boomers using social media?

Well first of all an important fact to know is that Baby Boomers (or Golden Oldies as I call them !!) are those people born between 1945 and 1964 that are now using Social Media.  The rate is increasing so much these days of this group of people using social media. In addition Golden Oldies have a more disposable income (well most of them) than any other age group and they are looking at different ways to spend it. So the question is “How can marketers engage and build relationships with these Golden Olides using Online Social Media?”The trick is to keep it simple and to be genuine and reliable. Baby Boomers are more likely to value the traditional tactics used in building relationships even in an online social media format. A plus to working with Baby Boomers is they don’t care about what you have and what you haven’t got, but they do care that you are true to your word and follow through on what you promise. Keep Things Simple, Be Reliable and Most of all Be Genuine. In order to build trust you need to be genuine and reliable. Mean what you say, and do what you promise. Do NOT use  the old adage of “fake it till you make it.” They have lived a full life and they will see right through you.  If you try this trick they are likely to run a mile and never come back to do business with you. Building the K.L.T. factor is going to take time.  Your team needs to be dedicated and reliable, which means they will spend a lot of time online on social media platforms, actively engaging with Baby Boomers.  It doesn’t matter whether you have a big or a small business you still have to put in the time and resources needed to interact with the customer.

Make sure you listen more than you talk.  Make a huge effort to understand what their needs are.  I am one of those Baby Boomers and we know what we want and not shy about telling anyone.  So listen !!  You also need to be flexible enough to communicate and engage wherever your prospects take you.  Don’t be flashy ….  Use different forms of communication that are simple and direct. Be proactive in your communication to help build long lasting and trusting relationships.  Baby Boomers want to know that you will be there to help them find what they need, when they need it.  You have to gain the trust of Baby Boomers otherwise they are not going to share you around unless it is to tell others that you can’t be trusted !!! Make Their Custom A Habit You have to understand that giving discounts and a pat on the back now and again will not win you loyalty with Golden Oldies.  You have to give them reliable, genuine, simple experiences to gain their trust and keep them interested in you. Once you have got that in place, then Golden Oldies will appreciate your discount and your pats on the back.  Then they are more likely to spend some of their money with you and it could become a habit with them. Just spend time with them engaging in conversation to find out what solutions you can offer them. Are you struggling to get everything done that you want to do?

5 Tips To Be More Productive

Running a business whether full or part time isn’t rocket science …..  but there is a lot to do and think about and fitting it all in!!  It is like hundreds of little pieces of a jig-saw puzzle and you have to figure out how to put it all together for what you have to offer, whether it is a physical or downloadable offer.

There are 5 different areas that you need to focus on which are particularly important for online entrepreneurs.  Whether you are a well established business or a newbie – these tips will help you become more productive and staying productive……

1. You have to get your priorities right.  I am sure you have heard of the 80/20 rule.  If not or if you have forgotten then here is just a quick reminder – it is also known as the Pareto Principle which means that 80% of your results will come from 20% of your activity!  First of all you need to know what moves your business forward and what is not moving it forward …..  I would say that most of the time creating valuable and informative content is going to make up the bulk of your 20%.  Great content is going to attract a much wider audience building your KLT (know, like and trust) factor.  Your readers will look at you as a go-to authority in your topic.
2. Now you need to manage your energy – time just keeps going on no matter what you do so you can’t really manage that!! But you can manage the energy you have available to devote to your 80/20 activities…..  You will need to improve your energy levels in the following ways:

• You should be working for about 30-50 minutes with a 10 minute break following just so you can relax and get refreshed.
• Make sure you get enough sleep! – Have to say one of my downfalls.  I need to take my own advice LOL
• You need to find time to exercise during the day.  Just a few short walks will help you a lot and will say that it works for me.  Just getting out perhaps in the garden for a bit will also get you refreshed and ready to carry on to be more productive.

Getting back to bad habits (like mine!), knowing things that are draining your energy like staying up too late, especially letting things like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. try and rule your life.  Turn them all off when you are working.  Maybe you are working through and not taking any breaks.  That will all sap up your energy.  You need to spend a few minutes on mapping out a plan on how you are going to start to move in a better direction to making you more productive.

3.  How To Improve Your Habits ..  Getting a lot done is not will power – it is just a matter of developing your habits that are going to support your goals and dreams. Work on your habits one by one.  Starting small and then getting bigger is the best way to improve your habits.

So if you want to develop a daily writing habit (a very good choice for an online business owner), start by making a daily ritual of writing for just 10 minutes. Set a timer, and don’t let anything interrupt those 10 minutes — that is your time for writing ……

Once you have mastered that you can then increase your time by a couple of minutes a day and gradually increase to the time you need to finish a project.

I think you will be very surprised at what you can achieve in 10 minutes!!

4. Distractions Have To Be Controlled

Working from home can be a very distracting place to be so you have to learn to control your distractions.

Firstly if you have a space in your house you can call your office is a good start.  Mine is my spare bedroom!  If you have a TV in that space then just turn it off when you are working as that can be a big distraction.  Light music in the background can sometimes help when you are working.  Depending on what you are working on, for example a blog post, then turn of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.  You will see how more you get done by doing that.

5. Join A Support Group

This is one of the best things you can do when working online.  Join a support group, a tribe or a team with other like minded people who have similar dreams and goals as you have. That way you can share your tips and advice.  Don’t try and go it alone ……  Get involved in forums in your niche as that is where people can share their ups and downs and their victories.

Make That Start Right Now

Time Management

Just take a few minutes and write down on your calendar (or a notebook if you don’t have a calendar) exactly when and how long you are going to devote to your first 10 minutes to implement these productivity strategies.  Make the first 10 minute daily habit the easiest one. It could be checking emails, checking Facebook, or if you are more inspired in the mornings, then make it your 10 minute writing for your blog.  If you want to do longer in each habit than 10 minutes you can but make sure you make it your daily habit.

Suncream Factor 50 Not Enough To Stop Skin Cancer

I just wanted to share with you this post from Sky News as I feel it is something that everyone should be aware of especially parents with young children :  I am a sun lover myself but this has made me think twice now.  We have always been told not to be in the sun between 12pm and 3pm but very few people take notice of this, even myself.  After reading this I will be thinking twice !!

I would urge everyone to take note of this and help protect themselves from this cancer.

                                               Suncream Factor 50 Not Enough

“Factor 50 suncream is not a reliable way of protecting against skin cancer, according to researchers.

A Cancer Research UK study found high factor suncream can reduce DNA damage and slow the onset of malignant melanoma – but it does not offer complete protection.

Researchers found that even when using high factor cream, enough UV radiation got through to damage the skin’s pigment cells which would increase the chance of developing the disease.

During the study, mice who were predisposed to melanoma took only around 30% longer to develop cancer when coated in factor 50 suncream than those who were not.

Dr Julie Sharp, head of health information at Cancer Research UK, said: “People tend to think they’re invincible once they’ve put it on and end up spending longer out in the sun, increasing their overall exposure to UV rays.

“This research adds important evidence showing that sunscreen has a role, but that you shouldn’t just rely on this to protect your skin.”

Study author Professor Richard Marais said: “This work highlights the importance of combining sunscreen with other strategies to protect our skin, including wearing hats and loose fitting clothing, and seeking shade when the sun is at its strongest.”

Malignant melanoma is the fifth most common cancer in the UK, with more than 13,000 people being diagnosed with the disease every year.”

A Short Break in Barnard Castle

Kitchen

This week my husband and myself are having a week away from home and are in Barnard Castle.  We are staying in a lovely cottage on a farm called Mellwaters Barn.    I can recommend this for a short or long break.  The cottages are spotless and equipped with all the latest mod cons plus a free bottle of wine, tea, coffee, bread butter, jam, sugar etc.  Just about everything that you would have in your kitchen at home.  I am sitting here writing this watching all the sheep and lambs out of the window, not forgetting the rabbits and cows !!

On the 6 hour drive here from our home down South we had torrential rain all the way.  Unfortunately the weather isn’t much better now on our second day but hoping for better tomorrow.  Unfortunately my husband is very poorly at the moment and sleeps a lot but managed to get him out today for a few hours.

We are planning on going to the Wensleydale Cheese factory on Tuesday, weather permitting!!  Today we are off to the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales.  I am not going to talk any work while on this short break so hope you enjoy the few pictures I have taken at the moment and will keep you up to date in a couple of days.

Are You Putting Yourself Out There And Branding Yourself?

I have spent a good part of today reading ebooks and watching training videos, taking notes and putting my plans in to action.

3 Great Tips For Branding Yourself 

1. Get yourself known – place a bit of content to your blog every day – it doesn’t always have to be about your business.  Readers love to read personal stories as well, so for a bit of a change tell a story about yourself or your family.

2. Set up a fanpage on Facebook – tell a little about yourself everyday – make sure you have set up your fanpage by following the instructions and try and make contact every day if you can – OK you can have Sundays off if you like !!!

3. Create a video and get it onto Youtube – this has to be the greatest way of getting yourself known - A great way to get yourself recognised is by creating videos. They don’t have to be long, maybe 2-3 minutes and try and do this daily. Whether it is about yourself, your family or your business opportunity, this is a great way to gain a good relationship.  If you are not happy in front of the camera there are other alternatives.  You can do an audio message or another one I use is Animoto which is great for doing videos.

Blogging is a great way to getting yourself known. Even if it is just a little bit every day. Share what you learn each day.

Readers want to know that they are dealing with REAL people so get to know your friends on Facebook and ask them questions about themselves. DO NOT push your business opportunity into their face as soon as you get to know them. Once you have built up a relationship with them then ask them if there is anything you could help them with and then they will be curious about what your business is all about. If they ask then tell them and offer them the opportunity to learn more. Don’t tell lies and don’t make any promises. You can’t make someone successful but you can inspire and teach them how.
