Did you know that thousands of people are still becoming homeless every day and that a large percentage of those people are women? According to The State of Homelessness in America organization report that at a point in time in January 2012, 633,782 people were experiencing homelessness.
In my 3X5 Island home town we are definitely have seen and are continuing to see an increase of homeless women. Jacksonville Florida is our neighboring city and according to a news special a couple years ago “on any given day there’s 832 women on the street.” Yes many of the homeless women are mothers with children however there is an alarming rate of single homeless women on the horizon as well.
Homelessness can be a sensitive topic for some, there are those individuals who have an antiquated mindset whenever they hear the word “homeless” that it’s about a man who does not want to work or a man who has just checked out of life.
Real talk in living color I am here to tell you that is far from the truth and reality of what’s happening. There are real factors that attribute to people becoming homeless, not to bore you with a lot of statistical data and facts however for the sake of all being able to relate the economics. Simply put thousands of people just do not have the financial means to keep up with the rising cost to live. Enough said on the larger scale allow me enlightened you from the niche of homelessness I am most familiar…, single homeless women.
Until November 2013 the single homeless women’s plight was quite bleak with not only having to worry about where she was going to live, but in many cases how she was going to live especially if she had any kind of medical situation. The health care bill was a huge asset to the single homeless women. The health care bill was only a small nugget in solving the single homeless women’s condition. More information is on the current websites www.womenofpowerinc.org and www.lavernemitchellministires.org . As a faith based house we do not receive any governmental funds. Donations and contributions have been really down this year hence one reason why I am challenging myself to learn some internet techniques.

Great Post, LaVerne you have chosen to write about a very real topic and I thank you for that. Homelessness is worldwide, it's in every community, every town and every city. It' s as real as you and I getting up in the morning and making breakfast, eggs on toast, perhaps bacon. We didn't stop to think about all those that go without. Homelessness is increasing nationwide, and it is disgraceful that people in the USA are in that position! I saw a TV special a while back about homelessness. Many people automatically think everyone living on the street is a drug addict or alcoholic. While there are many who are, a huge percentage of these people are homeless because of medical expenses! They lost their homes and everything else because of healthcare bills! I hope that many who live on the streets are able to get the healthcare they need now. (Do you have to have an address to get insurance?)

This is a heart wrenching post and so sad that it happens to women or men. You know I don't think many people realize that homelessness is possibly one down size. or out sourcing away from being at their own back door.
I pray for all those that l are on the streets. I hope people will go and help out. I will like and share this is a wonderful post thank you.
Enjoyed reading your post post LaVerne and it is a very sad situation. It is the same in the UK although there are more men than women and we see all the time in our town sleeping in shop doorways. I do try and give them a little something when I pass by even if just for a cup of coffee. Thanks for sharing.

Sad but true,I just found this couple in my local area who are in the same situation and have been looking for ways to help them.
Over 633 thousand people are experiencing homelessness. Those numbers are astounding and something must be done to help those who need it. The cost of living is increasing higher and higher each year. Unfortunately the income doesn't increase high enough to cover the cost of living. In my opinion, it is the cause of homelessness and some people's pride will not let them ask for help.
Prayer is the answer because God answers in due time when a person has faith and belief that he will do it. LaVerne you are here on this earth to do just what you are doing and God will bless you abundantly to help those homeless women and children.
