Meditation Benefits have been realized and practiced in different ways for several million years to date.  Meditation, or the act of meditating is considered deep, continued thought or reflection.

It seems that there have been forms of mediation in use for more than 2,500 years as part of Buddhism and other practices.

Through the past decade scientists have increasingly studied mindfulness and confirmed some of its benefits. As an example, some research suggests that meditation learned during an eight-week training can reduce depression, loneliness, and inflammation, as well as, possibly preserve function in the aging brain.

Meditation Benefits which are both mental and physical:

1. Reduces Stress

Meditation helps calm the mind and bring relaxation to the individual.  It also helps in reducing stress. This is quite often achieved through the breathing exercises that form
a part of the practice.

2. Various Health Benefits

Cases have already been documented wherein meditation was shown to have helped in the
curing an illness.   One of the landmark studies is one done by an  Australian psychiatrist named Ainslie Meares back in 1976 which was actually published in the Medical Journal of
Australia.

This particular study documented how a patient’s cancer regressed after several
sessions of intensive meditation.

Meditation has also been known to lower blood pressure levels.  This is beneficial for those
patients who are at risk of hypertension and other heart-related conditions.

3. Improves Concentration Abilities

Another practice in meditation involves focusing on a certain object, such as a candlelight. Other ways of meditation benefits can be oral or written material.  You could even practice reciting a specific mantra.  By using these types of activities you can be beneficial to improving your concentration efforts.

4. Acceptance of Life Events

One of the other known aspects of meditation is the ability to accept things as they are.  Releasing the hold on the things that you cannot change will also help in reducing your frustrations regarding the events which happen in your life that you have no control over.

Some people who will surely benefit from this include those who anxious, short tempered, fearful or are in need of  some anger management assistance.  As well as anyone who wants to bring about change in their lives.  Think on the “things” that you want in your life until you bring them into existence.

“Meditation is the dissolution of thoughts in Eternal awareness or Pure consciousness without objectification, knowing without thinking, merging finitude in infinity.”–Voltaire

“I have brought myself, by long meditation, to the conviction that a human being with a settled purpose must accomplish it, and that nothing can resist a will which will stake even existence upon its fulfillment.”—Benjamin Disraeli

“Meditation is painful in the beginning but it bestows immortal Bliss and supreme joy in the end.”—Swami Sivananda
