With emails what happens is that some emails are part of phishing schemes.  Phishing normally means that someone sends you fake or bogus emails with bad links in them. These links invite you to click on their bogus sites and submit some of your personal (confidential) information: maybe your full name, bank details, etc. Some emails even have spyware attachments on them.

Identity thieves, or thieves who focus on identity theft issues, send out thousands of fake emails almost on a regular basis, saying they’re representing government companies. So be careful if you receive emails saying they’re from the Justice Department, Federal Trade Commission, Internal Revenue Service or any other government agency or department. Spyware is computer software that is installed stealthily on a personal computer to intercept or take partial control over the user’s interaction with the computer, without the user’s knowledge or consent.

So always be alert and aware of what emails you open.  If you are at all suspicious DO NOT open !!

One government department alone, the Treasury Department, reported “Receiving over 23,000 complaints about IRS-related phishing schemes since November 2005. Most involve hoax emails telling recipients that they have a pending tax refund and are under investigation.”  I have often in the past received emails telling me about my tax refund – Yeeeehhh – luckily for me I knew I was not due one so I forwarded it to a fraud company.

Do not click on links inside emails from government agencies.

Government agencies rarely communicate via email, and if they do, it’s in response to something you initiated most often. They communicate via postal mail.

Windows posts update regularly, especially security patches. Make sure you download these or at least check monthly for updates. Mark your Outlook or other calendar and check regularly. So arm yourself: your computer and email for identity theft protection.

better safe than sorry

Most agencies are listed on the web today with contact information readily available.  If you receive communications that you are unsure of, call the agency first to see if the emails are legitimate.

Do not click on or save attachments that come with government emails. Delete these files. Unfortunately, sometimes even the best security isn’t good enough. Computers are expensive, and it makes sense to protect your investment from anything that could harm it.

Or maybe your computer just decided to crash one day. Roxio Back on Track was created with situations like these in mind, to help repair the damage that has been done to your PC.

I have heard a lot  about Back on Track although I haven’t tried it yet.  Apparently you don’t even need a Boot Disk for it to work, so there’s nothing to forget to make or to lose. If you have a computer that has information on it you’d rather not lose, then it might be worth check out Roxio Back on Track.  Anti Virus Is Very Important.

“Roxio Back On Track has you covered !!!”

They will reach your system by exploiting security holes or are packaged with user-installed software, such as Limewire. Spyware is often hidden alongside other programs, and you may unknowingly install spyware when you download a program from the Internet or install software from disks.

The most frightening part of being attacked is the privacy implication.  Virus spyware can also gather information about e-mail addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers.

So please keep yourself safe !!

Why Are Goals are Necessary?

Why Are Goals are Necessary?

You Must Have Goals

You Must Have Goals

It’s been proven time and time again that people who have goals are more successful in life and in their business.  I have seen this to be especially true in network marketing.   So many times I’ve heard people quit and say, “You know…this business just didn’t turn out the way I thought it would”.  Yet…when asked, “What were your goals?”  They didn’t have any.

That is so frustrating to me!  Having no goals is like getting into a car and driving for 12 hours.  Turning left and right.  Going on one motorway and down another.  Then landing in the middle of nowhere and saying “This was the WORST holiday ever”.  It’s like having no map, no destination in mind, no idea where you wanted to go.

Don't Be On The Never Ending Road

Don’t Be On The Never Ending Road

Your business operates in the very same way.  You MUST have goals in your business in order to know where you are going.  Mine is to get to visit my great grandchildren (twins) and enjoy my retirement in comfort.  Is it your goal to have a hobby?  Is it your goal to have a thriving business to allow you more times with your family and have financial freedom?  Is it to reach the top level of your company?  If you don’t have a goal, you cannot tell if you are on the right road to get there or not.

You see, you may want a hobby, but you may have a leader pushing you for the next big contest.  That pressure will only frustrate you unless you share your goal with him or her.  Or you may have a goal of hitting the top level of the company and you have a leader who is encouraging you to “just do your minimums”.  That will frustrate you just as much.  Neither of those are the right roads for you based on your personal goals.

Let’s look at it from a different perspective – one where you have set goals.  In the first scenario, you have a goal to make $5,000 a month.  You want to cover your son going to a private school and that is the tuition.  As long as you hit that goal, you’ll be happy.  You don’t want to spend much more time in a business than what it would take to make $5.000.  When your leader starts talking about the “next big contest”, you can wish her and the team the best of luck but let her know you’re happy earning your $5,000 a month!   That’s your goal and that is success for you.  Now, if you’re not meeting your $5,000 goal, you can talk to your leader about what you can do so that the business does meet your needs.

In the second scenario, you have a goal of hitting a top level in the company.  If that is your goal and you share it with your leader you can map out a plan for what that will take.  Together you can set monthly and quarterly goals.  If you are not hitting the short goals along the way, you’ll need to make adjustments in order to hit your longer term goal.  In this instance, you’ll need both short and long term goals in order to hit your level of success.  However, without defining and setting those goals, you would be frustrated a few months or years into your business if you felt you had not progressed up the ladder.

I encourage you to do the following:

  1. Take some quiet time this week.  Get away from your home and business.  Find a spot that you can do some thinking with no distractions.  Take a pad of paper and pen/pencil with you.
  2. Think about your business.  Ask yourself these questions:
    1. Why did you join your company?
    2. Why do you want to stay with your company?
    3. Is there anything new that you have learned since you’ve joined your company that you didn’t know before…that excites you?
    4. What do you HAVE to make with your business per month?
    5. What would you LIKE to make with your business per month?
    6. Is being a leader an attractive prospect to you?  Why or why not?
    7. Do you see yourself in this business 3 years from now?  5 years? 10 years?
    8. If your business went just the way you wanted it to for the next year, what would you like to be earning this time next year per month?
    9. Do contests to motivate you?
    10. Do you want to earn company trips?
    11. Are you willing to work the time necessary to earn contests and trips?

These are all questions that should get you REALLY thinking about what you realistically want from your business.  The most important thing is to be VERY honest with yourself.  Remember, your goals are YOURS.  They are not your spouses, they are not your leaders, they are not anyone else’s but YOURS.

A few last tips would be to:

¨  Decide what you want from your business and set your goals.

¨  When you get home, share your goals with your family and with your leader.

¨  Put your goals IN WRITING where you can see it.  Own it…it’s YOURS!!

If you haven’t set your goals for your business, set them THIS WEEK.  Only then can you make sure you are one the right road and hitting the milestone markers to get you where you want to be!

Employee to Online Entrepreneur

Employee to Online Entrepreneur

Employee to Entrepreneur

Employee to Entrepreneur

Making the decision to become being your own boss could be the best decision you take this year !!  So taking the next step from employee to online entrepreneur could be pretty intimidating……

As an employee you had a predictable, stable work schedule. You knew what to expect and had the support of other employees to accomplish daily tasks, but as an entrepreneur you are responsible for the success or failure of your own business.

But, you are also gaining freedom, flexibility and the opportunity to play by your own rules.  Imagine having all that extra time to spend with your family – taking days off when YOU felt like it – extra income to secure your families future …….

Thousands of people start their own business every year.  Some  are not successful, but many of them are. What can we learn from those who successfully made the leap from employee to entrepreneur?

1. Belief

Believe in Yourself

Believe in Yourself

Confidence and self belief is the driving factor that gets many new and inexperienced entrepreneurs through the learning curve of being their own boss. Simply believing that they can become successful on their own fuels their actions and guides their decisions.  No matter how hard the struggle at the start you just have to keep going and NEVER GIVE UP …..

To make money as an online entrepreneur, you have to be in it to succeed from the very beginning. There can be no doubt, no second-guessing. You have to have every intention of winning.

2. Viable Ideas

Always Plan First

Always Plan First

If you plan to make the jump from employee to online entrepreneur it is smart to have a plan and even smarter to have a plan that’s based on a viable idea. Do your research to ensure there is a market for what you want to pursue.

Having a viable business idea can be the difference in earning an online income quickly, or not at all. Having an idea that works makes it easier to tap into a readymade audience that can support your business plan.  If you are not sure then ask someone that knows about these things.  You will always find someone to give you an answer.  I did my research and am extremely happy with the product I am promoting.  It took a lot of hard work in the beginning but now I see the results of it working I am glad I did not give up.

3. Making a Slow Transition

There are many people who choose to make the leap from employee to online entrepreneur more gradually. Instead of jumping all in, they begin working from home part-time and gaining the experience and income they need to stay afloat until they can replace their paycheck at their current job.

While this can be stressful, and for some unrealistic – having the ability to fall back on a steady paycheck as you grow your business is the only option for many people.

However, if you are serious about giving up your  9-5 J.O.B, you make the sacrifice, and once your business begins to replace what you are making at your job, you can comfortably leave your job and become your own full time boss.

It doesn’t matter which way you choose to make the jump from employee to online entrepreneur, it begins with a decision and a plan. You must have a dream and a goal.  Be smart, take action, and have the confidence to go after the success you desire. Most people become entrepreneurs because they want to have more control over their lifestyle. They want more flexibility, more time, and more financial freedom. Whatever your reason is, the bottom line is that you will simply have to go for it!

Networking [Taking Your Offline Skills Online]

Networking [Taking Your Offline Skills Online]

Bringing Offline Business Online

Bringing Offline Business Online

For the ‘younger’ generation, networking is old fashioned! Going places and meeting people has been replaced by social media groups and texting. The world is moving at a faster pace, and business owners are struggling to keep up. Traditional business owners are trying to adjust to communicate with the new market, but don’t really know how to make the transition. The reality is that traditional business owners have the networking skills to build a business; they just need to tweak them to fit the online community.

The first step to getting connected is finding your community. Yes, there is community on the Internet. Think about who you want to connect with, and then do some research to find out what social sites and groups they are using online. Choosing an online community is the same as if you were looking for a community in which to live. You want a community that is growing, thriving, and interacting. The community should have a good amount of people to talk to – 500 or more is a good place to start. Your community can be on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, or even YouTube. Do your homework to find out the best place to meet people!

The next step is to make a connection. This is easier than you think. When you enter a room full of people, you survey the room to find someone with whom you think you might have something in common. This is easier on social media, because you can take the opportunity to review someone’s profile to find out a little about them before you even say hello. You can survey the group to see how active they are. Just as you would connect with a connector offline, you can connect with an active user online.

After you’ve made a connection, start the relationship building process just as you would offline. Instead of having a one to one meeting, you might become friends outside of the group where you connected. Social media platforms have a direct messaging and a chat feature that allow you to connect one on one. Approach this as if the person were sitting across the table from you. You’ll ask about them! Ask about their family, their jobs, and their goals. Make them feel important. If you really want to take this to a new level, set a ‘Google Alert’ for them, so that you know when something new happens in their lives as soon as it hits the internet!

Make Friends - Don't Pitch

Make Friend – Don’t Pitch

After you’ve spent some time getting to know the person through social media, take the process a step further and arrange a phone call. Simply ask your contact if they would be open to a phone call. While some people take for granted that a person’s phone number listed in their profile is an invitation to call, it is better to ask first. If you’ve covered the above steps, you will have a better response when asking for a phone call. If by some chance your contact is not comfortable, don’t get upset. That just means they don’t know you well enough yet. Once you’ve gotten to a phone call, you can put that person in your phone call rotation for contact management.

The key to all of this is LISTENING to your contacts. As you get to know your new social media contacts, you may find that they have no use for your product or service. That doesn’t mean you should toss them away. One of the benefits social media affords you is the ability to see who else your contact is connected with. If you’ve built a good relationship with your contact, they will not hesitate to introduce you to someone they know on social media.

Listen To Others Needs

Listen To Others Needs

As you build your new network, the key is to become a powerful resource – a connector, or source of knowledge. Just as it is important to grow your network offline, it is just as important to grow your network online. Spend 15 minutes per day just ‘meeting’ new people online – just to get to know them – no hidden agendas, no selling – just get to know them. You will find that you will build a network that is lucrative to your business! Get started today!

6 Top Tips To Create Compelling Content

6 Top Tips To Create Compelling Content

compelling content

Six More  Tips To Follow Tomorrow

By creating successful and valuable content makes the reader compelled to take action – either by calling you, sending an email or buying your product or service.

If you are trying to sell in your content then your readers will think you are just pitching them and it probably won’t work.  As I read somewhere it would be more repelling than compelling content …….

You need to think of your customer and what it is that they want to know and how you can attract them to you by delivering the information.

satisfied customers

 1.  Don’t Pitch To Try And Sell

Think about it, if you are suddenly faced with someone pushing their product in front of you as a first time reader of their blog, you are likely to run a mile !!!  REMEMBER – it is about them and not you.  A potential customer doesn’t really care what you do or how you do it.  Their only concern is how can you help them.  You know yourself if you are blogging, posting on social media sites or email marketing then it is quite obvious you are hoping for business.  We all are but we don’t want to make it so obvious.  If you have any testimonials then include them on your blog so that others can sing your praises …

 2.   Never Be Boring

boring

You might be thinking that other people may find your business opportunity is rather boring and that they don’t want to hear about it.  But if you turn it into a story about how you can help them and how it has helped you then they will start to see you as an expert.  Write a list describing the problems you have had and problems that you may have solved with some helpful tips and advice for potential cusomers.

 3.  Write Helpful, Valuable and Relevant Content

Write compelling and valuable content that will be of interest to your potential customers.  Think about all the articles you read and the blogs that you follow.  Or perhaps it is the videos you watch.  If they are entertaining and you find them compelling reading – maybe they teach you about how you can take your business to the next level.  You are going to carry on reading and following them.  Therefore take that approach with your own content.   Answer questions, talk about problems you most often solve and then when you start helping and solving your readers problems they will appreciate it and will then leave comments and share your content, possible leading to some new business.

 4.  You Need An Attention Grabbing Headline

How often do you look at a heading or a subject line in an email and think to youself  ‘that is rubbish’?  If a headline doesn’t grab my attention I will very rarely check it out.  You need to get creative with your headlines otherwise you are probably wasting your time.

5.  Readers Like to See Images and Videos

funny image

Why is it that many of the social media sites like Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, YouTube etc are so popular?  People love to see images and videos as they convey the message much faster than words.  So break up your content with good images or make a short video – people are more like to stay on your page if they see these things.

6.   Get to Know Your Audience

target audience

Before you start creating your content you’ll need to know who is going to be looking for your content and where.  It is a good idea to make a list describing the type of market they are in, how they get their content, what product or service they provide and then find out what are their needs.  What questions do they ask and then how your offer would be able to be of benefit to them and the most important thing, are they going to be potential customers for what you have to offer.

I hope these tips have helped you and I will have another 6 tips for you tomorrow on this same subject.

Starting A Home Business Has Never Been Easier

Whether you are an affiliate marketer, business manager, or writer, there are an infinite number of ways to make money leveraging the Internet.

While it does take some serious commitment and hard work (just like anything else worth succeeding at), more and more people are becoming their own boss by turning their passions into legitimate enterprises online.

What makes the Internet so attractive is that it will instantly allow you to participate in the global economy…without leaving your home.

What a cost effective way to reach millions of potential customers!

Not only can you tap into your local markets, putting your business online opens up the gateways to international commerce. Ever thought of selling your books in Italy, or servicing an international client who needs web design services?

It’s possible online and you don’t need any more than an internet connection and some basic knowledge to make it happen.

Find a Niche

Find Your Niche

Find Your Niche

The very first step is finding out who your target market is going to be. Who needs what you have to offer, and where do you find them online? There are a number of free tools that will help you determine your target audience. Use Google Analytics to find out who you are appealing to the most, and then cater your services and content to target those people directly. Another great tool is Google Global Market Finder. It can show you where there’s demand for your keywords – and your products.

Choose Your Platform

How will you deliver your content to your audience? If you have a physical product to sell, you may want to consider listing your business with sites like Amazon, eBay and Etsy. Google Product Search allows you to upload your products through the Google Merchant Center, with links back to your store. You may also want to sell directly from your blog or website.

Making your Business Accessible

Make Your Business Accessible

Make Your Business Accessible

To make money in your online business, it’s important to be able to drive organic traffic to your site and convert visitors to buyers. Make sure your site is easy to navigate and your services, products and prices are displayed in the local currency. You also want to make it as easy as possible for your visitors to purchase from you. Giving your visitors the best experience possible while they are on your site is guaranteed to increase sales. Also, make sure visitors and customers can get in contact with you through a customer support platform that makes it simple for them to ask questions and get prompt responses.

Other details you’ll want to research are shopping carts and payment processors. How will people pay for your services? Does everyone have access to PayPal, or do you need to have other options, such as credit card or e-check payments. You’ll also need to think about shipping if you’re sending products overseas. If you create and sell digital products, customers can be redirected to a download page once their transaction is complete.

Go Social

Go Social

Go Social

Leveraging social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn is a great way to connect with customers and engage with potential prospects. There are a ton of new opportunities that come from utilizing social media platforms. Not only is it a great way to connect, you can drive leads, build your credibility and brand exposure, as well as find new partnership opportunities. Social media continues to prove to be a hotspot for networking, sharing ideas, and picking up advice.

Becoming a successful global entrepreneur does take some work, and there are no shortcuts for success. There will be many learning experiences, missteps and challenges, but if you do your research, develop a solid marketing plan, and put in the work, your business will flourish. Once you have a formula that works, stick to it and the payoff can be extraordinary. Becoming a global entrepreneur allows you to open up the gates of the Internet and welcome prospects from all over the world – without leaving your home.

A Local Business Dream [foursquare]

A Local Business Dream [foursquare]

foursquare

Small businesses are struggling to compete with large corporations every day. It doesn’t matter what business you are in – food, fashion, marketing. Social media has helped to give small business a fighting chance against the big guys. There are social media platforms that are popping up all the time. One in particular is designed to benefit businesses large and small. This platform makes it easy for people to notify their friends as they hit the parking lot of a venue. Users can tell their friends something great they experienced and leave valuable tips as well. This platform will also tell you if you’re just a little too far away from a venue to REALLY be there. This platform is foursquare!

foursquare [foursquare is spelled with lower case ‘f’] is a young social network that can be a local business owners dream. With over 20 million users worldwide (as of April 2012), you can use foursquare to find what is nearby, save money, and unlock deals. Local businesses can use foursquare to gain exposure for their businesses with this new network.

Setting up your company on foursquare is easy. Simply go to foursquare.com/business to establish your profile. According to foursquare’s website, you can choose to establish a venue – where foursquare offers a free set of tools to help you attract new customers and keep your best ones. The other option is to establish a brand, so you can stay engaged with your followers anywhere in the world.

Offer check-in specials

One of the cool features of foursquare is that businesses can offer check-in specials. Users of foursquare who check in on their phones receive something – a discount, a free gift card, etc. When the user checks in, the notification automatically pops up on their screen. Small businesses can design a campaign around this feature to create a buzz around the giveaway and the business.

A fun way to drive traffic

Along with offering a special deal for checking in, a business can use foursquare to drive traffic to their website. For instance, you could offer that special deal for checking in, and invite the user to check out your website, which promises something else – a free sample. Using this method, your customers get the fun of checking in on their phones for a special, and they get to your website to get another free gift!

Highlight neighboring venues to create an overall experience

You can create a page that highlights fun and interesting tips about venues nearby, such as landmarks, parks, or other businesses. By highlighting other venues, you service your customers by connecting them to other services they may enjoy. You become a valued resource for ‘being in the know’ about your community. Even though the user may not use your business directly, they are still exposed to your brand. Being a connector in your community only enhances your business influence, which results in people being attracted to you for business and connection.

Create a badge

foursquare rewards users with badges when they reach certain criteria. It is displayed on their profile for all their friends to see. You can create a badge for your business or join with other businesses. This could be a fun twist on a scavenger hunt.

Example:

A hair salon, a nail salon, and a boutique could agree to join together and create a Glamor Badge.

Or

If your small business has three locations, you could create a badge rewarding someone who has been to all your locations.

Creating a badge is a great way to bring brand awareness to your business!  Any business ……

foursquare can help put your small business on the map! Partnering with foursquare will help bring visibility to your small business that you may not ordinarily get otherwise! If you are ready to let your local community and the world know that you exist, go to foursquare.com/businessright now to get started!  This is NOT an affiliate link !!

3 Ways to Find Your Target Market on Facebook

3 Ways to Find Your Target Market on Facebook

Facebook is as vast as an ocean. With almost a billion users, Facebook can be quite intimidating. Yet, Facebook presents a huge opportunity to grow your business. The key: connecting with the right people! This post shares how you can find targeted people to connect with to be more productive with your time on Facebook!

find taget market on FB

There are almost a billion users on Facebook. It could be a country of its own! With almost a billion users, there is really no way you can run out of people to talk to. You certainly don’t want to talk to ALL of them. The problem at hand is how to find the right people to talk to. You could try to go through a billion people one by one, but you’ll probably die before you get to them all. Wouldn’t it be better to spend your time connecting with people you WANT to talk to? Wouldn’t it be better to know how to find your target market? I’m going to share a few methods that will help you find targeted people to connect with, so you can generate more leads and make more money using Facebook.

Where is your target market getting their information?

Who is a thought leader or trendsetter in your industry? If you train people on real estate investing, your target market is probably on Donald Trump’s fan page. If you are a cosmetics consultant, your target market may be on Kim Kardashian’s page. The reason this works is that thought leaders and trendsetters have a huge following. These leaders aren’t going to connect with an individual. There is only one-way communication happening here. You will fill that void. You are offering a personal connection to the value they are trying to obtain by ‘hanging out’ with these celebrities.

Join targeted groups

There are thousands and thousands of groups on Facebook. You need to find the ones your target market is active in. There are some do’s and don’ts though. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure the group is active
  • Join groups that have at least 500 people
  • Share valuable content
  • Comment on other group member updates
  • Share other group members’ content
  • Don’t spam the group with an opportunity
  • Don’t spam other people’s walls

By consistently interacting with a group, you will generate leads for your business. Pay attention when someone asks a question. Provide an answer – whether it’s with content you’ve created, or content created by someone else. You will establish yourself as an authority figure by providing valuable content to the group.

Eavesdrop

I know that sounds kind of sneaky, but this really is a cool tool. Simply go to the search box and type in a topic of conversation. If you get a list of options, click ‘All Results’ at the bottom of the dropdown. At that point, you should get a list that looks like this:

FB Lead Gen Groups

Choose the option for ‘Public Posts’. Anybody who posted about the topic you chose will show up in your results.

fb groups option

Click the little search icon to the right and enter what you want to know e.g. lead generation and this will bring up all those talking about lead generation.

You can look through the profiles, and choose who you want to connect with.

Here’s an extra tip: You don’t want to send a friend request here. You want to send a direct message asking them to connect. You might say something like, “Hey John, I see you’re a football fan. So am I. [Find something in common] Who’s your favorite team?” At some point, you send a message that says, “Let’s be Facebook friends. If you’re OK with that, send a friend request.”

By doing this, you are allowing your prospect to request being friends with you, and you’re not requesting a friend you don’t know. This keeps you out of trouble with Facebook!

Using either of these methods consistently will generate leads for your business. You can implement these methods in as little as 15-20 minutes per day. If you want to start increasing leads for your business, implement one of these methods today!

7 Tips Why Blogging Daily Is Good For Your Business !!

The 30 Day Blogging Challenge With Beth Hewitt and Gang – Day 1

I have heard many people saying ‘is it really necessary to blog every day’?  The answer is debateable but I just wanted to list 7 tips on how blogging daily can help your business and get your Alexa ratings up !!  When I started the last 30 day blog challenge in September my Alexa rating was just under 2 million and when I finished it was in the 400,000′s which does prove a point.  I feel it is important to commit to writing on your blog daily, while not feeling guilty if you miss a day or two !!

blog daily

Here Are The 7 Tips I Recommend

  • It is always a good idea to have at least 3 or 4 subjects you can write about for different types of niches to engage with people and gain a strong following.
  • Write about topics that you are passionate about and that really interest you.  Explain your opinion and share other peoples viewpoints to provide a balanced article.
  • Use keyword rich content to make it easy for readers to find your blog posts in the search engines.  You need to have a good mix of keywords around your article but do not have too many repeats of the same phrase as this starts to look spammy.
  • Tell people about your blog post to let them know it exists so as to increase your potential traffic.  There are many ways to do this.  Use social networking sites and ask people if they wouldn’t mind sharing for you.
  • You could write a series of posts which will follow on from one another, which means you will be giving out smaller pieces of information which encourages people back to your blog to read the continuation.
  • When someone comments on your blog post then interact with them by responding to their comments and giving valuable insights.  You have to make these readers fewl special and show them that you value their opinions.
  • Lastly make sure you keeep up to date with the latest topical subjects and respond to them.  Your readers will be actively seeking you out and seeing you as an expert in this field.

I hope the tips above have been of some help to you but REMEMBER by committing yourself to blogging daily could return huge rewards on the commissions that you can make.

Head Injury Safety Guidelines

Head Injury Safety Guidelines

This Is A Guest Author Post

If you have ever had a concussion, you know that a blow to the head can feel like you’re going to die a slow painful death. Much different than other injuries, even the smallest head injury can have serious long-term side effects on your health. However, following proper procedures after a brain injury, or knowing what to do if a friend is a victim, can make a major, sometimes life-saving, impact.

Types of Head Injuries

  • Concussion
  • Scalp wounds
  • Skull fractures
  • Hematoma
  • Diffuse axonal injury

Each injury includes a variety of grades of intensity. For example, there are five types of skull fractures: linear, depressed, diastatic and basilar. Linear skull fractures are the most common amongst the skull fracture category, while basilar fractures are the most serious and require close medical attention in a hospital. Serious brain injuries frequently cause internal bleeding in the brain tissue or layers surrounding the brain.

Common Causes of Head Injuries

There are four common causes of head injuries, and none of them will likely surprise you.

  • Sports-related injuries
The most common sport for brain injuries is cycling.
  • Slips and falls
  • Auto accidents
  • Violence and physical assault

In addition to these common causes, it’s important to know that some hematomas and brain hemorrhages occur spontaneously without any specific external cause.

Symptoms of Brain Injuries

Sometimes it can be difficult to determine if a person may have some sort of brain injury, particularly for mild injuries. Below are some frequent symptoms experienced for the varying degrees of the injuries.

  • Mild Injuries
    • Headache
    • Sensitivity to lights and noises
    • Swollen area from bump or bruise
    • Blurred vision
    • Confusion
    • Abnormal personal tastes
    • Balancing problems
    • Nausea
    • Changes in sleep patterns
    • Lightheadedness or dizziness
  • Moderate or Severe Injuries
    • Unconscious
    • Severe headache
    • Short-term memory loss
    • Difficulty walking
    • Slurred speech
    • Seizures and convulsions
    • Pale skin color
    • Blood or fluid draining from nose or ears
    • Open wound on the head
    • One eye pupil larger than other
    • Behavior changes

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of severe injuries, it’s crucial to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Sometimes symptoms are not immediate and can manifest themselves or accelerate over a few hours or even days. Even when the head appears fine on the outside, internal damage and bleeding could be occurring without initially realizing it. Additionally, if you experience a severe brain injury, your spinal cord is likely to also be damaged. Spinal cord damage can have a serious effect on strength, sensations and other important body functions.

What to Do

  • Call 911 immediately if you know someone is experiencing any of the moderate/severe injuries.
  • Check his or her breathing and blood circulation
  • If breathing and heart rate are normal and he or she is unconscious, stabilize their head by holding it in place with spine. Monitor it to prevent any movement.
  • If the head is bleeding, keep a wash cloth firmly pressed against the wound. If it seeps through the wash cloth, keep holding it there and place another cloth on top. Make sure not to move their head.
  • If vomiting, lay the head, neck and body all together down on their side to prevent choking.
  • Apply ice packs to affected wounded areas

What to NOT Do

  • Do not wash a deep head wound
  • Do not remove anything sticking out of the wound
  • Do not move the victim unless absolutely necessary
  • Do not shake them
  • Do not remove a helmet
  • Do not let them fall asleep
  • Do not let them drink alcohol for at least 48 hours

4 Great Secrets For Article Marketing

4 Great Secrets For Article Marketing

article marketing

So you have just started up your home business ….  and the only way for your business to succeed rather than fail is for you to start promoting it.  There are several ways you can do this e.g. paying for advertisements or you could go for free advertising through article marketing.  Just to help you get started below are three secret tips to get you started !

  1.  First of all you will need a catchy headline/title to promote your business.  Have you ever heard of the saying “curiosity killed the cat” – in this case no-one is going to get hurt.  Just think about it, if you saw a title that made you curious and want to read more – this is where you have to capture the readers attention to make them want to read on ……  It will also help if you use your keywords in the title so that when someone is searching they will see your article.  At the same time, you can mention the benefits of why reading your articles can be of benefit for them.
  2. Secondly, you will need to make sure that your article is well organized…  So instead of just writing your article paragraph by paragraph, maximize the use of bullet points or numbers to stress the most important points.  This will then make their reading experience a memorable one because they are able to remember it.
  3. Thirdly, you must be able to provide value and make your articles informative and not just to impress the reader.  Do this by using simple words instead of long/short technical terms (that many people don’t understand).  You have to write for the average person (myself LOL) and in terms that they can understand.  If you have ever been to hospital and the doctor tells you what your problem is (some long medical term) and you have to ask what is that? – just to be told you have an infected big toe !!  Use terms that are easy to understand.  Otherwise your readers will have to Google what it means !!  So now you have finished your article.  Read it over and make sure you can understand what it means, or better still get a friend to read it and see what they have to say.  If you have any concerns about it then edit it, because maybe if you are an expert in this area, your readers might not be.  You are providing value and information and you want it to be in plain simple English that your reader can understand.  Don’t forget to check your article a couple of times as you might find something extra you would like to add.  This is where variety comes into it as there are different ways of stressing a point when the bottom line is that you just want ‘eyes on your article’ !!  You can always get new information by joining and posting in online forums and on blogs.  Some people will put snippets in their articles that could be of help and you should add something daily.  Don’t forget to put a link to your site.
  4. Lastly, each article has an article summary.  Most websites require this so in just 3-5 sentences, get down to it and say what your article is all about and why they should spend a bit of time reading the entire thing.  You have to put that extra bit of effort in here otherwise you may already have lost the opportunity to make it look interesting for the reader to find out more.

Promoting your site through article marketing is very easy.  You just have to follow the 4 secret tips mentioned and then use this to your advantage.  Again, you need a catchy, curious title.  Make sure it is informative so readers are encouraged to visit your site.

If done properly, you will no doubt get more traffic to your site which is what this form of advertising is all about …..

9 Great Article Marketing Tips

9 Great Article Marketing Tips

Article Marketing Tips

Article Marketing Tips

Article marketing can be a big asset for your business but there are just a few things you need to know which I have listed below to help you.

1. First, you have to make sure that whatever you are writing about is relevant. If you know for a fact that your product could be very useful, then do some research about it and then end the article with a link to your website.  Before you upload the article, check if the site you plan to put this on has this as one of their topics.

2. Just like what you read in the newspaper or see on television, the article must be both timely and of value to your visitors. This will allow you to stay in touch with what is happening in the world. One good way is signing up with a site that gives you alerts with regards to certain topics.  Sign up to their RSS feed.

3. Some authors post just one article and think that’s it but just like movie producers in Hollywood, you should post a sequel to this because there could already be new information available which you could share to the public which will be of value to them.  You will not get recognition if you don’t post  regularly.

4. You should also make your articles go viral. You could become a guest author on someone elses website.  By doing this it means that it will become added revenue for you. What this simply means is allowing other people to publish your article just as long as nothing is changed and you are given credit for it.

5. Each article you write must be short and simple. I have always thought that about 500 words is long enough to get your message and value over to readers.  It must be short so that it will not bore the reader. Also simple so that they will be able to understand the message you are trying to convey. Don’t get too technical !  If I see something that looks too technical then I tend to close it and go on to the next one.

6. Just how many articles must your write to increase traffic? The good news is that you only need 2 to get things started. A good title will be “ How To .. do something” and “ x number of tips for something.” If this catches their interest, that person will most likely click on the link to your site and you could possibly have a customer. The bottom line is that it increases web traffic.

7. If you are going to put your articles on an article directory site like Ezine Articles or one of the many other sites you could stop at just 2 articles to promote your site. If you have other products, and want to be a guest author you can write articles on it as well and then mention in the resource box. This is known as cross-referencing which a lot of webmasters allow their contributors to do.

8. Besides  posting your written work on other websites, don’t forget to also put these on your own.  If you have written 10 or more articles about the same topic, you could put these together to create  an e-book and then pass this along for free. Again, if people like what is written there then people won’t mind reading it several  times.

9. Besides  posting on websites, make use of RSS feeds. There are plenty of them around so make use of it.

There are two ways to get into article marketing. The first is to write it yourself and just hope that people will appreciate your writing style. The other is to hire someone to do it. Some charge by the hour while others charge per word. It may be worth it if this increases traffic to your site.

By following these article marketing tips, it won’t be long before you get a lot of hits.

3 Tips On How To Get Visitors with Terminated Domains

Expired Domains

Expired Domains

One of the biggest complications in being a newbie to online marketing  is trying to acquire traffic.  This is because trying to build genuine traffic needs both time and cash.  How is this so?  Well, if an online marketer is trying to acquire traffic through search engines, they will need to spend important amounts of energy and effort with link-building and article writing.  If they are trying to get traffic through a pay-per-click programme, they will have to spend probably a lot of cash if they want to take advantage of a high-performance keyword and key phrase.  However, there is another alternative that can allow an online marketer  to get plenty of traffic without having to invest too much time and cash.  It includes buying expired domain names.

What is an expired domain name?  An expired domain address is a site address that never got restored by its owner.  This could be for a wide range of reasons such as disinterest in the unique web page, lack of resources or something more serious, such as a death.  Whatever the reason when the restoration charges aren’t paid, the expired domain address rests out in the online world still performing as any other domain address.  There is just one difference… an expired domain address doesn’t have a web page connected to it, so it points to a 404 error web page.

Therefore it is a waste of traffic when an expired domain address points to a 404 web page.  Many domain address companies have noticed this, which is why quite a few sell expired domain names either through a regular, upfront sale or through an expired domain name auction.   The prices for these domain names can range from less than $100 to over $1 thousand.  Some of these sales may even include a web page.

Wasted Traffic

Wasted Traffic

1.  So, how does an online marketer  know if an expired domain address is worth buying?  First, they need to check to see the Google web page rank of an expired domain address.  To do this they need to download Google’s toolbar  and then type in the URL of the expired domain address.  The toolbar  will then let them know what the site ranking is. If the page rank indicator is grey, the expired domain name must be avoided since this means the site has been banned by Google. Otherwise, it should be okay, though web page owners should also take into account the actual number associated with the site ranking.  If the number is between 6 and 10, they should highly consider buying the expired domain address.

Google and Alexa Rankings

Google and Alexa Rankings

2.  Secondly, web page owners need to find out the Alexa ranking of an expired domain address.  The Alexa ranking decides how much traffic has actually gone to a site address.  If a web page has not obtained a lot of traffic, it will not have an Alexa ranking.  To figure out the Alexa ranking for an expired domain address, web page owners need to visit Alexa.com

3.  Finally, web page owners need to see how many sites are connecting to the expired domain address.  To do this they need to put the command link: followed by the URL of the expired domain address into a search engine.  If a lot of links come back, this is an indication that the traffic coming to the expired domain address descends from genuine resources.

5 Marketing Strategies for Better Social Branding

Social Media Branding

Social Media Branding

While there is no one universal approach to building and maintaining a good brand, there are a few rules when it comes to social branding. These are constant marketing truths and tactics one should keep in mind when they look at their social programs.

Go for the Groove

Go For The Groove

Go For The Groove

Some branding campaigns try so hard to be different that they lose their relevance or the message requires too much explanation. Remember: different is not always good, especially in the online and mobile environments when you have just a few seconds to capture someone’s attention and connect with their emotions.

This Is The Deal

This Is The Deal

Here is the deal – there is a groove in each person’s head that your message must fit right into. This groove is an incomplete need or thought, based on what they know, what they need and what they love about your brand or category. Find this gap or this “groove” and fill it! Accomplish this and chances are you will have a winning message that connects and embeds in people’s minds on a synaptic and emotional level. Miss the groove and… well, you’re just another meaningless instant in an ocean of impressions.

Be Helpful

Be Helpful

Be Helpful

Ask yourself this simple question: “Why would anyone want to hear from me on a regular basis?”  Make sure there is a reason to connect to you.

How does getting a continual stream of content from your company provide value to your audience members? Are you helping people to be more successful in their careers? Are you giving them ways to live healthier?  Have more fun?  Save money?  Make money?  Is the reason to connect obvious when a person browses your content or reads your social calls to action in your ads?

Give people a reason to connect with you and make them one of the driving forces of your social content and promotions. “Check us out on Facebook” really is not a great call to action. “Save tons of money and get exclusive deals – Like us on Facebook” may work better to get your customers engaged socially. If your targeting B2B, maybe it’s, “Get industry insight and IT success tips – Follow us on Twitter.”

Get People Talking

Get People Talking

Get People Talking

Remember, in social your brand is not what you say; rather, it’s what people say about you. Like Bonnie Raitt sang, “Let’s Give Them Something To Talk About.”

Spark conversation and promote content that generates dialogue, not just between you and your community, but between the members of your community and even their friends. Encourage interactions, ie.: “Ask your friends where they like to travel to and Brand X might just send you and them there together!” This will also boost your “Talking about this” viral metric on Facebook.

Be Human

Be Human

Be Human

Social media is the right place to show the human side of your company. Let people get to know not just your products, but the people behind your products. Remember, social media is about socializing and people want to feel like they are connecting with real people who share their values and emotions.

It is impossible to communicate with an inanimate object. Loosen up a little bit and show the face behind the curtain. Really be friends with the lovers of your brand!

(Now here is the thing, they don’t want or need to know what you did on your corporate outing, so a tinge of discretion alongside humor or self-deprecation is advised.)

Encourage the share

Encourage Sharing

Encourage Sharing

The share is as valuable as the Like or Follow! It creates peer to peer impressions featuring your brand and also goes back to the “get people talking” tip.

Be greedy for the share and celebrate it. Make content that is worth sharing and then make the share the call to action you are trying to encourage. We all want engagements, conversions and actions – but what about shares?Remember – the share is the action. So put big honkin’ share buttons everywhere and celebrate the share!

I would love to see some of your tips for good social branding; please post them below or add them to the shares you post with this column!

Picking the Right Domain Name

Picking the Right Domain Name

domain names

Choosing a domain name for a website is like choosing a book cover for a novel.  If they are not interesting enough, or don’t properly convey what a website is about, visitors will have no desire to enter them in their browsers.  Yet, excessive creativity doesn’t make for a good domain name either.  Why is this so?  It’s because if a domain name is creative but not keyword-rich, search engine bots won’t be able to index it in search engine listings.  So, ultimately, your domain name must be both catchy yet search engine optimized.  This article will explain how you can achieve both objectives.

Most importantly and foremost you will need to find a popular search engine keyword that can be incorporated into your domain name.  A keyword analyzer can help you in this task.  These can be found pretty easily with a basic search engine query.  When you find one, enter in a keyword that best summarizes the purpose of your website.  The keyword analyzer will return different versions of this keyword.  If the more specific instances can also fit within the nature of your website, choose one.  This is because when it comes to search engine optimization, more specific keywords are better since they are less likely to be used by other webmasters.

Now you can start selecting your actual domain name.  Most domain name companies will allow you to see whether or not your domain name is available.  If it is not available, it will return a list of recommended domain names.  Take advantage of this tool by first entering your selected keyword.  If your keyword as a domain name is not available, consider the suggestions the domain name company gives.  If the main keyword is still included in these suggestions and it ends with .com, consider it.  Otherwise, you will have to be more creative.

For example, you can use ‘filler’ words, numbers or phrases within your domain name to still include your selected keyword.  Fillers could be ‘a,’ ‘an’ or ‘the.’  Search engines tend to not look at these words, so you still have a good shot at getting indexed while having a domain name that is memorable and catchy.  You can also consider fillers at the end of a phrase, such as ’101′.

So, what if you do these things and you still can’t get .com?  Well, there are some situations where it is better to stick with a lesser-used extension because the keyword is just that popular.  Extensions that still get noticed include .net, .biz and .org.  Additionally, you can also consider using country or state-based extensions if you don’t mind international or local-based marketing.  It’s better to be number 1 in France’s version of Google than to be number 200 or worse in America’s version of Google.

To sum it up, choosing a domain name that will get the right buzz from both humans and search engines doesn’t have to be hard.  The keyword analyzer will help you with 90% of your domain name, while your wit with fillers can help you the other 10%.  And, if after an immense amount of pondering, you still can’t get the .com, you can opt for other extensions.

Improve Workplace Performance With Natural Light

Many people do not realise just how powerful and beneficial natural light really is, especially because the media is always talking about how dangerous the sun’s rays are to the skin. While there are certainly dangers involved with spending long periods of time out in the sun without protection from clothing and non-chemical based sunscreens, there are also many health benefits that come with spending a few minutes exposed to natural light every day.

When it comes to workplaces, people actually perform better when they are exposed to natural light through a skylight or even through their office windows. Continue reading to learn more about this interesting phenomenon and how you can go about improving your workplace, whether you run your own business or you work from your home office.

Being Exposed to Natural Light Improves Sleep

When workers are exposed to more natural light throughout the workday, they are actually able to sleep better at night. And when employees can sleep more soundly throughout the night, they can awaken refreshed and ready to take on the day the next morning. This leads to better job performance overall. This is probably because exposure to natural light helps to regulate an individual’s circadian rhythms.

When employees are exposed to natural sunlight through their office windows, they feel better overall. And happier workers perform better as well. This is because natural light boosts serotonin levels in the brain, and this stimulates action and interaction among employees, resulting in better output.

Exposure to sunlight stimulates the body’s own production of vitamin D. This nutrient is very important for overall health, but a lot of people are deficient in it because they spend the majority of their time stuck indoors without exposure to enough sunlight. But having plenty of windows throughout the office and allowing the light to shine in at all times of the year will expose workers to it, thereby allowing their bodies to produce this vitamin, which improves immune function and can help them stay healthier so that they do not have to call out sick as often.

By pulling aside the curtains and lifting those blinds, you can let more sunlight in and reduce the need for artificial lighting throughout the workplace. The more you can keep your harsh fluorescent lights off, the better your workers will feel and the more money you can save on your energy bills. So, whether you are a freelancer who works from home or you are a business manager with an office full of workers, keep the windows open to let the light in and replace the need for artificial lights that cost money.

Getting enough sunlight throughout the day is very important both for the health of your body as well as the work that you produce. Sunlight can do wonderful things, including boost your serotonin levels to make you happier while also regulating your circadian rhythms to help you sleep and awaken rejuvenated.

5 Ways Businesses Can Enhance Health And Wellbeing At Work

Wellbeing at work provides as many benefits for the employee as it does for the employer and a number of small changes that are extremely easy and low in cost to instigate can make significant differences to the way people feel, perform and act around their work. So, let’s take a look at some great ways to improve the way people feel about themselves and their wellbeing in their place of employment.

Back Issues

One of the major causes of days off work are related to back pain and back issues and one of the best ways an employer can take to prevent this is to ensure they have quality chairs, desks and workstations that help encourage good posture. When you think about it, the cost of a good chair is only worth the same amount as a day off for some employees. So, is it worth investing in quality – as far as we can see, yes it is.

Exercise

Encouraging exercise can really help increase the feeling of wellbeing at work and motivate people inside and out of the work place. Exercise can be encouraged in a whole range of ways. Perhaps your business will help with bike to work subsidies, or offer lower priced gym membership for employees that attend regularly. Indeed, even reminding people of the benefits of walking to work can be a cheap but positive way to encourage change among workers and see them becoming more active on a day to day basis.

Food

Food is one of the formative parts of our lives and eating well will help us feel a lot better about ourselves and also helps ward off many illnesses and sickness. As with exercise, there are all sorts of ways a business can encourage healthy eating. From having a fruit or vegetable bowl in the canteen, providing free fresh fruit and vegetables, to subsidising healthy lunches, or even going as far as the likes of Google and others and providing healthy food for free – a business benefits from workers that eat well.

Relaxation

Work environments are stressful that’s for certain but how about encouraging relaxation within them. Some businesses offer employees free meditation or yoga classes after work or out of hours. These sorts of classes encourage employees to relax and equip them with the skills and also the interest to do so outside of a work setting. They can be very beneficial to both the individual’s well-being and frame of mind and once again the businesses can also benefit from happier, more relaxed and more energetic workers. It’s well known that people who are more relaxed make better decisions, are also less likely to take sick days.

Classes

Well-being programs and classes like those from Performance on Demand can be a great way to get employees onside and feeling good about their work. These classes teach employees a range of techniques and ways to work more productively, better and also to stay more relaxed. They can be very beneficial to employees and employers and build up elements of resilience which can be very beneficial and really help people cope better at home and at work.

These are just some of the ways that employees and employers can benefit mutually through encouragement of a healthier, more relaxed and less stressful workplace.

Three Ways To Save Money On Your Home-Based Business’s Many Expenses

Save Money On Your Home-Based Business's Many Expenses

Save Money On Your Home-Based Business’s Many Expenses

Every business owner, whether he or she works from a home office or out of a large office complex, wants to find ways to reduce his or her costs so that more profits can be earned every month in order to keep the company moving forward into the future. But sometimes it can be difficult to really pinpoint areas of your business that can save you money, especially if you are struggling to make ends meet as a result of this tough economy and you are getting too frantic to even think straight.

Whether you are desperate to start saving money or you simply wish to further cushion your bottom line, continue reading for some tips that will help your home-based business save more money every month so that you can continue doing what you love.

Pay All of Your Bills Online

If you can manage to do so, pay all of your bills online, from vendor bills to credit card bills and electricity and phone bills. This will allow you to keep control over your finances because you will have a running record online of each and every transaction so that you never need to run to the bank to get a printout of your activity if something suddenly does not add up. Plus, you will be saving money on postage, and you will be saving time because the payments will go through much more quickly. This allows you to wait a little bit longer on making a payment if you really have to.

Switch Phone Service Providers

If you want a landline, go with a company that offers Internet-based phone service that is much more affordable than standard phone lines. Whether you regularly conduct conference calls or you just use the phone for a few minutes, an established business line that is not your personal mobile phone line will separate business calls from personal calls as well. Also, be sure to check your usage, as you may be able to find a better deal by purchasing a plan that restricts the number of minutes you can use.

Use Energy Star Products and Let the Sunlight In

Any products that have an Energy Star seal are great for the home office because they will save you money on your energy bills by consuming less electricity. If you are in the market to replace anything from you scanner to your printer, look for devices that will save you money in the long run.

Let more natural light into your home office so that you can reduce the amount of time that you need to keep your lights on. This will also reduce your electricity bill, especially if you are also shutting down your computer and other devices completely at the end of each workday.

Saving money while working from home is easier than you think. A home-based business can be extremely successful if the business owner is able to cut overhead costs, such as electricity and phone bills, and make smarter purchases.
