My New Novel is HERE!!

THE BOY FROM BROUGHTY FERRY

Joseph Tom Riach – Author of successful living books and mystery novels, vivid views of life and business

Adventure, Thrills, Suspense - Here Now!

"Tom Riach weaves a thrilling yarn around real events with smart writing and a riveting plot." - The Review

The Boy from Broughty Ferry is young Scottish fisherman, Torry Taggart, abandoned on the doorstep of his adoptive parents when only days old. He grows to become a steady crewman on his father's seine-netter but an unruly hooligan when ashore. When he kills a crew-mate's father in a reckless escapade while all in the local community believe him to be aboard the lifeboat Mona on its final, ill-fated mission, he flees to Ireland. In the village of Brakenhar, he enjoys the endless pleasures of fishing in the sea, gun-running and committing deadly terrorist atrocities. Life is good. Better than that, it's perfect. The best part of all is that Torry isn't even here. He's dead. Were he alive none of this would be possible.

But what will happen when he is discovered by a 'ghost' from his past, blackmailed into betraying his hosts, and compelled to return to his home town on the 25th anniversary of his 'death', to an indifferent mother, a lost love, a daughter he never knew he had - and a mission to assassinate the British prime minister? Will his deadly task succeed or will Torry find redemption in his new-found fatherhood and the fishing community of his birth? Can a dead man with a cold heart live again? Will he be allowed to?

The Boy From Broughty Ferry is raw and brutal; a story of love without feelings and killing without conscience; fragmented relationships and communities at war. There is wickedness and courage and an explosive finale in which Torry's unwitting search for the identity denied to him when abandoned as a baby is finally revealed. But will it come in time to save him from himself?

I am Tom Riach. I live and write in the sunny south of Portugal.

Tom Riach has done it again! He's a talented, creative and awesome writer.
I can also see Tom...I mean Torry has a special place for the Lassies.

    I love this Novel!

Torry Taggart, grew into a cold blooded man. Reading his life expierinces,
certainly gives insight into why. But, still you can't help
but to like him because he's real, however, lethal. He is what he is and he makes
no apologies for it, I like that in a person. Although I wouldn't
want to get caught in his crosshairs. Still, his life is exciting and an
adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The characters and destinations are described in such detail
that you can actually see the people, feel the enviroment and smell and taste
the foods. The descriptions are awesome. And the cliff hangers make your
heart race, I'm not just exaggerating.

It's a page turner that's hard to put down, it's like at the
end of each the chapter, there's a surprise or shock, how can you not
go to the next one...and take care of that task later.

The one thing I'm not too happy about is, it has to come to an end.
And even though I want to know what happens. it still means that the
Novel has come to an end.

You are too perceptive, and naughty, for your own good Robin :-) ... but yes, it's rewarding to hear how much you took from the book. As I've often said, it's knowing the pleasure which others get from my efforts which is the real reward, which makes it all worthwhile. There's no bigger kick than that. So ... thanks for the kick! I love it!

I took much more from it Tom, but I'm not done with the Novel, yet.  I'm also learning from the lingo, for instance what a coxswain is and what they do.  It's really intricate and interesting you have to be on point.  I've also, always been interested in the conflict in Ireland and England, and I'm learning more about it here.  I saw a documentary that said Deep Sea fishing, is the most dangerous job in the World.  And the scene with Rory proves it to be real. It was scary but I can see why it's given that designation.  I'm with Terri, this deserves the big screen as long as they keep their edits to themselves.  I think it should also make the Best Seller list.

  • This is an amazing book. It keeps you on the edge of your chair. At first the foreshadowing may be annoying, but keep in mind it all ties together in the end. I thoroughly recommend this book. Just don't start it at night in the middle of a thunderstorm, or you'll have to finish it to get to sleep!

It's lovely to hear your thoughts Carolyn and how much you enjoyed the read. Praise is nice. It's the genuine critique and personal perceptions of readers which help to shape, and hopefully improve, my efforts. Without your input there would be little to celebrate. So a big thank you. Hope you get to sleep okay :-)

You have a big hit on your hands and I'm loving your novel very much. It has everything I love to read in a good book. Intrigue, suspense and action too. There's more I can list here, however I just started chapter 5 and it looks to be exciting as well. You know I'm your biggest fan Tom Riach and thank you for being in the SE community and sharing your great books here.

Who knows it might be on the big screen soon. You never know.

It's so good George Pierce and I want to read it every chance I get. I usually wait until late in the evening to read when I'm done with my work online and offline. I look forward to seeing what you think about it.

I am just getting started, I, too, usually read before going to sleep. I am so glad for Tom, I feel that he ventured outside his comfort zone, and I am pleased to hear it was a good choice.
