They say everyone has a book inside them, but in the past getting your own book into a state where you could market and sell it was a long process that involved a lot of luck. While many writers still prefer doing things this way because of the prestige associated with having a but released by major publishers, it is now possible for anybody to publish a book they have written and, with the right marketing, get it seen by their target audience who will hopefully buy, read and enjoy it.

Here we take a look at how self publishing using things like Amazon has changed the way we think about writing and selling books of all kinds, from bestselling novels to niche reference and educational books.

How Traditional Book Publishing Works

Following the previously accepted path to getting a book to market, getting a book published would involve pitching the idea to agents, one of whom would hopefully pick up the project and sell it to a publishing house. It would take a lot of commitment to even reach the stage of getting a proposal seen by agents, and particularly in the case of non fiction books, sometimes a good idea would be rejected because it had very niche appeal and the publishers wouldn’t be convinced they’d be able to sell enough copies to justify making it.

For fiction writers, often the book itself would be in a completed form before the author would try to get it published, whereas for non fiction the idea would often be proposed before the book itself was written, and upon a publishing deal being secured, the writer would have to finish it in time for strict editing deadlines. Once the book was published, the writer would have a certain responsibility for marketing the book, though the publishers would also make some effort to promote it (how much depending on the breadth of appeal the concept had and what else they had coming out).

Why Self Publishing Changes Everything

Self publishing has always existed to some degree, but where in the pre Web 2.0 age you would have had to spend a lot of money on financing your own print runs and would then have had to find places to sell you books, with things like the iBook store and Kindle you can publish a book in digital formats without having to spend any money at all up front (aside from any you might spend on design or editing). Through some services, you can also offer your book as a print copy, and this is essentially printed on demand and sent to the person who has ordered it, meaning you don’t end up with any unsold copies, and the cost of printing the book is included in its purchase price.

This means that in principle, even if you have literally no money you can write and release a book that people can buy. If you are writing it for non profit purposes, you can even make the digital copies free so as many people as possible will read it. As long as you stick within the rules of the self publishing service you’ve chosen, you don’t need anybody’s approval or for the idea to be deemed good enough by an agent or publisher.

While self published books are, because of all of this, abundant and therefore it can be hard to have a hit (particularly with the most popular fiction genres), even some major bestsellers like Fifty Shades of Grey started out as self published titles. We’ve all heard the story of how J K Rowling was turned down by countless publishers before getting Harry Potter released – who knows, if this had been a viable option when she finished the first novel, even that could have started in this way!

How To Create A Super Easy Collage !!

I don’t know about you but I am always on the look out for super easy ways to do certain things and I had an email a couple of days ago from Dr Lisa our Digital Marketing Doctorand couldn’t thank her enough for putting me on to this.

Setting Your Schedule

If you want to have a successful business then you need to set yourself a schedule.  You might be thinking “but I am doing this work online so that I can have some felxibility and more freedom.  Why do I need to stick to a schedule?”

To an extent this is true but if you want to HAVE a successful business where you can have the freedom and flexibility then you NEED to have a schedule in place.  I have listed the 11 tips below on why you need this schedule.

• If you have a day job (or night job or part time job) then you would need to mark that down as you are not going to be available for that period of time.
• You might want to give yourself Sundays off, as spending time with family and loved ones is so very important.  If you don’t have any commitments on a Sunday then use this time to catch up.
• If you have school going children then you need to mark down any meetings, events at school or after school events.  DO NOT compromise on family as this should be your first priority, before thinking what you could be earning.  I learnt the hard way !!
• Take one or two evenings off a month to go out with your other half.  Another DO NOT ignore them !!
• If you have set times to take the dog for a walk, mark that on your schedule as well as that is also important.
• You also need to mark on your schedule a bit of “ME” time.  I used to sit for 14-16 hours a day on the computer.  That was all wrong, ignoring family and friends just to get my work done.  Believe it or not when I started a schedule and took time out for these things I got just as much done in 3 hours as I did in the 14-16 hours !!!
• Personal development is an essential part of your training, so mark down a spot on your schedule for 30 minutes a day just to read a good book that is going to help you in your work on personal development.  Meditation is also a good thing.  Do that for about 15 minutes when you get up and you will see how motivated you feel.  Life is so fast these days and you need that time just to get the juices flowing …….
• Once you have got the above appointments all marked out on your schedule you will then be able to see what times you have available to devote to your business.  Fill these in and make sure to stick to the days and times and then you will see how things gradually get easier, giving you more free time.
• Try and stick to a routine.  Maybe you check your emails first – set a 30 minute block for that and stick to that 30 minutes.  Do the same for Facebook.  I am sure you know how addictive Facebook can be, but just limit yourself.  Turn it off after 30 minutes and then perhaps 30 minutes for sending emails, or writing a blog post.  But just stick to the times you have set out.
• If you find you are not getting it all done in that set schedule, maybe get up an hour earlier (before going to work if you work) and do a bit of catch up, or spend an hour at the end of your set schedule.
• Colour coding is a great idea.  Less important things RED, things that need to be done maybe ORANGE and the things that are going to make you that extra income GREEN for GO …….

You will be surprised how quickly you get into a routine by doing this.  If you fall off the wagon a couple of times, don’t panic.  Just get back on and back into the routine.

Goal Setting for 2014

There are only a few days to go until 2014 and you should have your goals set for this new year !!  I hope you have yours in place …….  and have set yourself a deadline for achieving them.

Everyone has goals even if you don’t know it.  It could be that you want to change your JOB, saving for a rainy day, travelling or buy things to make your lives more enjoyable.  One important factor is that top achievers are very focused on their goals while others just think about it and don’t do it !!

As they say you have to speculate to accumulate …….  People that achieve their goals have the right mindset and tools for achieving their goals.  They invest in their business and also invest in their personal development.  Below are 10 tips for you to make your goals achievable.

1.  Goals are Reachable ….. To reach your goals the brain must know exactly what you are trying to accomplish.  Not just ‘maybe’, ‘a little bit’ or ‘a bit more’.   Your brain can help you accomplish almost anything if it know exactly what you are aiming for e.g.  if you want to stop smoking, set a specific date and stick to it.  Same with your business ‘I am going to be making $5,000 a month in 90 days’ – be specific and believe it ……

2.    Make Your Goals Simple - Many people want to do so many things at once e.g. wanting to retire to a tropical island with a big house and half a dozen cars (ok maybe a bit over the top with this one LOL) but see what I mean.  Some have a lot bigger list of goals.  Just think about it, any one of the above is a goal and with too much on your list of goals is going to become overwhelming and you probably won’t reach even one of them !!!  Set that specific goal, one at a time.  Reach it and then go on to the next goal.  Same with your online business.  Keep it simple otherwise you are going to confuse your brain.

3.    You need to really care about the goal you want to achieve.  You have to be enthusiastic, work hard and have the courage to make it happen.  You need to really, really want this goal otherwise you will get the attitude ‘don’t really care one way or the other’ ….  It has to be something that makes you want to get out of bed in the morning and get going, not even having to think about whether to have a coffee first, go for a walk or go and do the shopping first.  You feel you want to keep going all day long until you reach your goal.

4.    Design your goals to strategically impact as many areas of your life as possible.  By doing this you will have more reasons to reach your goal and you will be much happier and excited when you do !!

5.    Measure your goals.  If you don’t do this then your goal is just a pipe dream.  You can’t achieve a pound of desire or 12 inches of self esteem but you CAN start a business which is measurable.  A great saying is “What gets measured, gets done”.  Measure your progress until you reach that goal.  If you want to lose weight, set a goal and measure it.  It will be achievable.

6.    To reach your goal in business you need a plan, a route and the right tools to get there and your goals must be sensible.  When you tell someone about your dreams and goals it has to be able to make them get excited and draw support and encouragement.  Your goals should be just out of reach but don’t let them get out of sight !!  You want to reach out and be your best, not having to chase after impossible dreams.  Go set your goals ….. You can and will achieve them.

7.    Choose your goals that you can see.  They must be things that you enjoy and be able to clearly visualise them.  Your brain will have a hard time defining “financial security”, BUT is could visualise a healthy bank statement.  You have to excite your senses and then just GO, GO, GO for it with every bit of strength you have.

8.    A great way to achieve your goals is to have a vision board.  Look at it every day as a reminder of what you want.  Write notes on there ….  You will SUCCEED …..

9.    Share your goals.  Be part of a team or tribe so that you are all working together and supporting one another in reaching your goals.  This will increase your motivation to get where you want to be.  One work of warning though, don’t share your dreams and goals with anyone who is likely to doubt you and there are many sceptical people out there.  Get a mentor and work with those that have been there, done that and got the T Shirt …..

10.   Your reachable goals have to be consistent with your values.  A big reason why some people fail is that they have conflict between their behaviour and their values.  If your goals and values are in agreement then there will be no stopping you.  So get working on that vision board, write down your goals and see how easy it will be to achieve them.

Do You Keep Putting Off Today What Should Have Been Done Yesterday?

Do you find yourself saying ‘tomorrow’ when really you should have done it yesterday and you start to feel overwhelmed?  Well I know that feeling and since I changed my mindset things are starting to fall into place !

Try not to lose focus on those important things that need doing.  You can either give in to temptation or stand by your values……

Your success is going to come from your passion for writing.  Don’t lose control of that and give in to temptation from poor choices.  Set your goals and dreams so that you can complete them without falling into bad habits.  Your goals and dreams are important to you so strive to aim for them and don’t give up when you are feeling overwhelmed.

Below are 7 tips to help you change your mindset when writing articles…..

1.  Self-Control – if you don’t have self-control you are going to damage your progress and credibility.  We all long for something, whether it is that little bit of extra cash or perhaps you want financial freedom.  Whatever it is don’t lose patience by cutting corners.  Even if it takes you longer, write valuable and compelling content.  Yes, it might take longer than you want to spend time on it but it will benefit you in the long run.  Do your best and write original content for your readers.

2.  Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone – If you are writing about the same topic day in and day out your readers are going to start thinking “does he/she know anything else?” – by doing this it looks as if you have nothing else to offer.  Don’t be scared of change !  Branch out and cover a few different topics.  With a bit of research you can write about anything…..

3.  Don’t Be Impatient – No matter what it is you want to achieve, it is not going to happen overnight (although many people think this !!)   Get your priorities right and don’t be impatient.  Over time you will develop your writing skills which is going to be your investment.

4.  Be Passionate About Blogging – Readers will soon notice if you are passionate about blogging or article writing.  I have been on some websites where I think to myself – WHAT!!  Something that is of no interest to anyone and they are just trying to get a bit of information out thinking it is going to boost their rankings.  Be excited and passionate and you will find yourself writing compelling and valuable content.

5.  Don’t Get Agitated-Stay Calm –  If you don’t stay calm you are going to just write anything without thinking just to get that content out there.  By staying calm and positive will have a positive effect on your writing.  We all get writer’s block at some time or another.  Put pen down and take a break and just stay calm.  You will soon overcome that negative feeling and the positive energy will flow.

6.  Don’t Think Of Your Competitors – Concentrate on what valuable content you can get out there – get readers hooked on reading what you write – you have to get them to KNOW, LIKE and TRUST you and if you are envious of other bloggers that will get you nowhere.  As they say ‘things can only get better’ and you will eventually conquer your competitors with YOUR compelling content !! Never think of quitting by thinking that the grass is greener on the other side …..  A little change is all it needs.

7.  Don’t Be Humble – Always be proud of the work you produce and know that there is always room for improvement – if someone criticises something in your work, take it on board and know that you can learn from this.  Don’t think that you know all there is to know.  Even the great gurus and mentors are still learning daily.

So, don’t take shortcuts thinking this is going to get you there faster.  Change your mindset, be YOU and you will earn that trust and credibility that you deserve.

True freedom comes from understanding how to leverage the money and the time you currently have to create more of it in the future.

Gluten-free dishes do not have to be boring. If your child has any sensitivity to gluten, then you have to think of amazing and enticing recipes to ensure that he will be eating healthy and gluten-free! With that in mind, here are some gluten free recipes that any child will surely enjoy!

Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Any children will surely love to eat fries. Sadly, children with gluten sensitivity are not allowed to eat potatoes as these contain gluten. Surprise your kid with this heavenly and gluten-free treat!

Here is what you will need:

½ tsp of ground cumin

¼ tsp of freshly ground red pepper

1 tbsp of vegetable oil

2 large sweet potatoes

Here is what you should do:

The first thing you should do is to prepare the sweet potatoes. You can do this by combining pepper, salt and cumin in a large bowl. Set the mixture aside. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit. Afterwards, peel the potatoes. Cut all potatoes in lengthwise (half). After that, slice into six wedges. Place spice mixture, oil and potato wedges in a big bowl. Mix it well. Toss the potatoes until these are evenly coated.

Now, it is time to bake the fries. Arrange the potatoes on a baking sheet. Do only a single layer. Place it in the middle rack of the baking oven. Bake this for 30 minutes or until the edges have become crispy or the potatoes have been cooked through. Serve it while it’s hot.

Pistachios, Coconut and Tropical Fruits Recipe

For desserts, here is a healthy yet delicious gluten-free recipe your child will surely enjoy!

Here is what you will need:

16 slices of tropical fruits of your choice

4 tsp of coconut milk

2 tbsp of pistachios, finely chopped

Here is what you need to do:

Slice your choice of tropical fruits. It can be papaya, mango or pineapple. Arrange the slices beautifully in a platter. Drizzle with coconut milk and top with finely chopped pistachios. Serve right away.

Black Beans and Rice Recipe

This is a simple gluten-free recipe that is good for lunch or dinner. The best thing about this recipe is that it is very easy to prepare. In fact, this will just take about five minutes or so. Plus, the chicken broth and the beans will provide your child with the protein he needs.

Here is what you will need:

1 1/2 cup of black beans

1 ½ cup of rice

3 cups of chicken broth

1 can of diced tomatoes

Here is what you need to do:

In a rice cooker, place the black beans, rice, chicken broth and diced tomatoes. Set all these to cook until all the liquid has been absorbed by the ingredients. Serve immediately.

It is great to have a home business with all the cool “stuff” to do.  If you’re anything like me, you love going to places like Staples and buying things to make your life easier, and easily spending hours there.  The problem is however, I find that many people who have an online marketing business get so caught up in the “fun” part of their business that they spend a whole lot of time working ON their business…and not IN their business.

Work IN Your Business vs ON Your Business

Are You Working ON Your Business?

By that I mean all the things you do on the outside of your business.  Things like clearing out your inbox, perhaps making flyers, organising and clearing your desk, getting through all those emails, spending too much time on Facebook etc.  These are all great things to do and are also essential (well, some of them !) if you can do this things very quickly and efficiently.  The trouble is when you are spending too much time ON your business you are not spending enough time on the actual things that are going to produce that income for you.

Before you know it hours have passed during the day and although you feel you have been very busy and may have been very productive you have still not been working IN your business.  I am sure like me you have a daily plan and write down all that you want to achieve for that day but if you have any priority projects left TO DO at the end of the day then you have not been working IN your business.  You have probably been doing other things like:

1.  Maybe spending too much time on that capture page where you could possible have re-purposed another one that is not working so well for you.

2.  Maybe spending TOO much time on the phone talking to friends about your business when in the end they are just not interested.  You should be able to pick up on that in the first 5 minutes of that call.

3.  And the old favourite FACEBOOK – are you spending too much time there and other social media sites.  I know it can get a bit addictive, especially PINTEREST ……..

Are You Working IN Your Business?

By working in your business I mean getting down to the nitty gritty !!  Advertising whether free, ppc or solo ads – recruiting, sending out those follow up emails, creating new and valuable content, speaking to people that are really interested in your business and connecting with people, getting them to know, like and trust you.  These are all the things you HAVE to do that is going to grow your business and make a huge difference to the income that you make.

Nurture and nourish your business and take care of it.  Stick to a schedule as much as possible.  I know it is not always possible as things do ‘crop’ up that can’t be avoided, like hospital appointments, school events etc.  As long as you focus on those Income Producing Activities that you have on your list and make them your priorities, then once done yes go and play on Facebook etc.  Once you get into a strict routine it will just come naturally and will get easier every day.

When you turn on that computer and think “what do first?”  Look at your list and say to yourself  ”is this going to make a difference to my income and make me money?”  If not leave it to the end or the next day.  You have to tell yourself what you should be doing to meet your goals……

If you ask yourself those questions every day you will find that you can focus better on the things you need to do to work efficiently IN your business.  By doing this when the day is over and you look on your checklist you will see how much you have accomplished by working IN your business and you should have marked off all of the top priority projects – which are going to get you closer to your dreams …..

Some suggestions for you to do:

1.  Make sure you follow up with your prospects.  Set a date and time to call them.

2.  Connect with 3-5 new people every day.

3.  Attend webinars and meetings.

4.  Attend live events whenever possible.

5.  If there are any events locally to you book a stand and introduce your business that way.

6.  Help your team members to become leaders.

7.  Always provide valuable information and show you are a leader in your business that way people are going to know, like and trust you.

8. Your business needs your full attention at all times.

To sum it up make sure you are working IN your business as a priority and then any spare time you have you can work ON your business !!!

Take Breaks and Get Sleep

Lastly, take regular breaks, make time to eat and get enough sleep ……..  This post is slightly longer than I intended but just wanted to get these points across !!

The economy is hitting everyone hard. No one is feeling the pain more than those who are at or nearing retirement age. It has become critical for these folks to find an alternative source of income, since their nest eggs have been obliterated by the stock market. Affiliate marketing is quickly becoming the alternate method of choice!

The state of today’s economy has everybody in a state of flux. Nobody is in a more precarious position than those who are close to retirement age. Online Marketers And Herons?

Herons are beautiful creatures that will poise themselves along the river or flying just above the water skimming the water with it’s slow, deep wing beats.

You will often find it standing motionless searching for it’s prey and would often think it could be a statue.  But beware that heron will stand still scanning for a way to catch it’s prey.

Herons can move very slowly sometimes but when it sees a fish that it wants it will strike like lightening.

Now you are wondering why I am telling you all this but if you read the rest of this post you will see why I feel Herons can help in your online business !!

Herons have a specially shaped neck allowing them to curl their neck into an S shape which gives them an aerodynamic flight profile which means they can strike on their prey at a distance.  They have a fringed claw on their middle toes which they can comb their chest feathers which comes out like ‘down’ and they then apply this to the under part of their body which protects them from any slime or oil they might come across in rivers or swamps.  These feathers continually grow and fall out.

One feature of the heron is that it only weights between five and six pound and that is due to the fact that they have hollow bones, the same as other species of birds.  They have photo-receptors in their eyes which gives them great night vision so that they can pounce on their prey day or night.

 

The fish farmers have problems with these herons as they will all congregate around a fish hatchery and if there were any sick fish in the water they would swim near the top of the water making them very vulnerable for the heron.

Herons will eat anything from fish, reptiles, insects and other birds.  When they see a fish they will use their long bill like a spear to catch it and then shake it about to break the sharp spines on the fish before gulping it down.

Seagulls are a good target for herons and they have also been known to attack humans.

But do not be fooled if you live in an area where you see herons, as apparently they can’t tolerate another live heron BUT they will ‘fall in love’ with a heron statue !!  There are several ways you can protect your fish pond.  Firstly you can cover in a net or you could build like a patio cover over the top.  You could also put cave models and fish tunnels in your pond where they can hide – or if you have a rottweiler – or actually any dog this would also deter the herons.  If you have a larger pond you can also buy a crocodile or alligator statue which also appears to keep the herons at bay.

Now to get to the point………  Don’t be like a heron and just swoop on your prospects, get to know them first by using the K.L.T. factor and find out what it is they need to progress in theironline business and once they have gained your trust then slowly introduce your opportunity, but on the other hand BE like a heron by never giving up !!

Dream a Little Dream With Pure Leverage

I just love this song and makes me think about all the things I used to dream about as a child.  But now being of the older generation I have much bigger dreams and I am not about to give up until I have achieved them.

Too many people these days are not prepared to work for what they want.  They want it handed to them on a platter – Ok maybe some were lucky enough to be born with a silver spoon in their mouths but I think my spoon was plastic !!  Don’t get me wrong.  I had a wonderful childhood with wonderful parents who both had to work hard for what they wanted.

Being brought up in that environment I was exactly the same.  I worked hard all my life but never really had much to show for it.  Then I discovered the internet when I retired (wish I had discovered it many, many years before!!) and I am loving what I do.

I was like a lot of people when I started, jumping from one shiny object to another getting nowhere, and then I got to know people on Facebook, where I have met many wonderful friends and mentors.  One thing I was always told was “Never Give Up” if you want to achieve your dreams.

I joined Pure Leverage when it was in pre-launch and thought “this is the one” – yes I often thought of quitting but so glad I stuck with it.  It took a lot of hard work and training but when you start to see results it makes you realise there is money to be made in Online Marketing.  So if you are thinking of quitting your company because you are not seeing results then my only advice to you is “keep at it, it will happen when you least expect it”.  I am not one to show my commissions but just this once I will share it just to show you it can work if you stick with it.
