"THANKS A LOT" TO ALL MY FRIENDS THAT SENT ME WARNINGS

linkarrow.gif VISIT WEBSITE (learn more)

As we progress into 2014, I want to thank you, one and all, for your educational e-mails over the past year. I am totally messed up now and have little chance of recovery.

I can no longer open a bathroom door without using a paper towel, nor let the waitress put lemon slices in my ice water without worrying about the bacteria on the lemon peel.

I can't sit down on a hotel bedspread because I can only imagine what has happened on it since it was last washed.

I have trouble shaking hands with someone who has been driving because the number one pastime while driving alone is picking one's nose.

Eating a little snack sends me on a guilt trip because
I can only imagine how many gallons of Trans fats I have consumed over the years.

I can't touch any woman's handbag for fear she has placed it on the floor of a public restroom.

I must send my special thanks for the email about rat poo in the glue on envelopes because I now have to use a wet sponge with every envelope that needs sealing.

Also,
now I have to scrub the top of every can I open for the same reason.

I can't have a drink in a bar because I fear I'll wake up in a bathtub full of ice with my kidneys gone.

I can't eat at KFC because their chickens are actually horrible mutants with no eyes, feet or feathers.

Thanks to you, I have learned that my prayers only get answered if I forward an e-mail to seven of my friends and make a wish within five minutes.

Because of your concern,
I no longer drink Coca Cola because it can remove toilet bowl stains.

I no longer buy
fuel without taking someone along to watch the car, so a serial killer doesn't crawl in my back seat when I'm filling up.

I no longer use Cling Wrap
in the microwave because it causes seven different types of cancer.

And thanks for letting me know
I can't boil a cup of water in the microwave anymore because it will blow up in my face, disfiguring me for life.

I no longer go to the cinema
because I could be pricked with a needle infected with AIDS when I sit down.

I no longer go to shopping centers because
someone will drug me with a perfume sample and rob me.

And I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number for which I will get a huge phone bill with calls
to Jamaica, Uganda, Singapore and Uzbekistan.

Thanks to you, I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a big black snake could be lurking under the seat and cause me instant death when it bites my rear.

And thanks to your great advice,
I can't ever pick up a coin dropped in the car park because a molester waiting to grab me as I bend over probably placed it there.

I can't do any gardening
because I'm afraid I'll get bitten by the violin Spider and my hand will fall off.

If you don't send this e-mail to at least 144,000 people in the next 70 minutes, a large dove with diarrhea will land on your head at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, and the fleas from 120 camels will infest your back, causing you to grow a hairy hump. I know this will occur because it actually
happened to a friend of my next-door neighbor’s ex mother-in-law's second husband’s cousin’s best friend's beautician!

Oh, and by the way...
A German scientist from Argentina, after a lengthy study, has discovered that people with insufficient brain activity read their e-mails with their hand on the mouse. Don't bother taking it off now, it's too late. :)

Affiliate marketing allows people to sell a variety of products online through their blogs or website. If you are looking for an easy way to monetize your website, you can easily implement affiliate marketing into your site.

The basic concept is signing up for an affiliate marketing network and finding products that are within your niche. Once you find the product that is within your niche, you click on the hop link to add your affiliate ID to the product link. When a reader clicks on your hop link and buys the item, you get a commission for the sale. Although this sounds simple, there are a few things that you need to know before you get started.

Here is a simple guide for affiliate marketing beginners.

Choosing Your Affiliate Network

The affiliate network that you choose will have a lot to do with the type of products that you are selling. Different affiliate networks will focus on different items. Some affiliate networks like Commission Junction mainly focus on selling website subscriptions and services while Clickbank will focus on digital products like eBooks and software packages.

Determine what affiliate network is going to fit best into your niche. For instance, if you’re running a website that offers advice on insurance, you can use a lead based affiliate network to promote insurance quotes. Some affiliate networks are known for late payments and other bad business practices so do your research before hand.

Choosing Products

When you’re first starting out you’re going to be inundated with different products for marketing. There first thing that you need to do is research on the products that you’re going to promote. Unlike your niche where you are focusing on a small market, you can expand your product base and offer a wide variety
of products or lead generating links when you’re marketing to readers.

Don’t go overboard, but have a couple of items that are relevant to your niche. Whether these are eBooks or software packages, your readers have broad based needs within your niche so you should appeal to every aspect of their need. Click on the “Gravity” or “Network Earnings” options on the affiliate network for stats on what products are selling the best.

Buy The Product

How are you going to give real information about a product if you have never used it? When somebody comes to your website they are looking for information on the product. If you don’t give them detailed information then they are going to leave the site and probably never come back.

Buy the item so you know the ins and outs of what you’re trying to sell. Never give broad information about a product. You will be glad that you bought the product instead of just trying to fake your way through a review to do online marketing for it.

Be Honest

Affiliate marketing is all about being honest with a product. If there are things that you don’t like about the product, tell your reader. This will differentiate you from the other marketers trying to sell them a product based on the features.

When you explain what you don’t like about the item you show that you actually know what it does and what it doesn’t do. You can easily build rapport with your readers and establish online trust. This will bring them back to your website when they need a new product or are wondering about different websites that you’ve tried out.

Cloaking

Almost everybody knows what a hoplink looks like. When you put hoplinks on your website, a reader is going to know that you’re trying to sell them something. These links are not only telltale signs of a sale; they are not aesthetically appealing to your websites. Cloaking your links is the best way to keep the website looking professional while not coming off as a hard sell.

You can use cloaking tools or you can use an anchor text link. This allows you to
embed a link within a certain phrase. For instance, if you’re trying to sell an eBook on acne you can add your hoplink to “Acne Ebook” so that when the phrase is clicked the reader is taken to the product page.

Viral Media

Viral media is an easy way to drum up traffic to your site or blog. If you are going with a hosting plan then you will be able to easily host videos on your site. If you don’t have a hosting plan, head over to HostGator and buy one.

This is very cheap and will give you the freedom to upload and house your videos per your website or blog. Record yourself going over the product or take screenshots of the product to show the different features. Also talk about what you don’t like about the item to keep your readers informed. Video marketing is a great way to generate traffic.

 Lawyers
should never ask a Georgia grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer.

grandma.png (317397 bytes)

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know me?' She responded, 'Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you'll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.'

The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?' She again replied, 'Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.'

The defense attorney nearly died. The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, 'If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you both
to the electric chair.

Medications and Basic Toiletries

toiletries-medicine-carry-on.png (215143 bytes)

Always keep prescription medications in your carry-on. As for liquid medications, as long as you declare them to the TSA security checkpoint agent, they're permitted in reasonable quantities exceeding 3.4 ounces, and they don't have to be placed in the zip-top plastic bag with other liquids, aerosols and gels. I also pack some aspirin, a few basic toiletries (toothbrush, travel-size toothpaste and the like) and, to combat the dry-as-the-Sahara cabin air, lip balm and saline nasal spray.

Reading Material

Woman-Reading.jpg (25893 bytes)

I always make sure my carry-on has reading material, whether it's magazines, newspapers or a book. Increasingly I rely on my e-reader, which under a recent FAA rule change no longer has to be switched off during takeoff and landing. But whether you're a reader or a player of cards or games, the point is to include some easily packed entertainment in your carry-on.

Something to Keep You Warm

blankets-stay-warm-travel-items.jpg (54570 bytes)

Have you ever sat under an air conditioning vent on an airplane? It can get a little chilly. Bring aboard a light jacket or sweater for shorter flights and a travel blanket for longer ones. But if you opt to take up valuable space in your carry-on with an extra garment to keep warm during the flight, make sure it's also something you'll wear during the trip.

Food

food-snack-airplane-items-carry-on.jpg (48299 bytes)

Unless you enjoy the overpriced boxes of processed food that pass for a meal these days in coach cabins, pack your own snacks in your carry-on. Bring at east a little something to snack on during the in-flight beverage service, or in the boarding lounge during long delays. Ratchet that up to a nice, fat sandwich, fruit and cookies if you're flying during mealtimes.

Printouts of Important Documents

printed-travel-documents-items-carry-on..jpg (27023 bytes)

Even in this era of making online travel arrangements and loading boarding passes onto smartphones, there's still a place for paper. Take printouts of your air itinerary (showing reservation or locator number), hotel confirmation, car rental reservation and other important travel documents and put it in your carry-on bag. If there's a problem, it's often a lot easier to consult a piece of paper — or to show one to an airline, hotel or rental car employee — than to pull up a document on an electronic device.

Chargers for Electronics

chargers-electronics-travel-items-carry-on.jpg (28160 bytes)

Don't find yourself rationing battery use. Stash charging cords in your carry-on for phones, tablets and any other electronic device you might conceivably need, either at the airport waiting for a flight or after arriving at your destination.

Change of Clothes/Undergarments

undergarments.png (415971 bytes)

Last but not least, don't find yourself without a change of clothes and or undergarments. You'll kick yourself if your luggage is misplaced, stolen or lost. When I was in the Boy Scouts, our Moto was: "Always Be Prepared". Take heed.

*****************************************************************

Wherever you may be flying to or just taking a road trip this holiday season, I hope your trip is a safe and enjoyable one. Have fun.

PRACTICE TRANSPARENCY

Just as the term implies, your customers need to be able to see who you really are on social media platforms. Don’t over-think what your image should be or try to be something you aren’t. Your authenticity will translate as both honesty and integrity to your customers.

Always disclose your affiliations. Your readers will appreciate your honesty, and will feel better about contributing to your earnings. If they sense that you are being less than honest about your affiliations, they are savvy enough to bypass your link and go directly to the vendor just to avoid giving you referral credit.

You should have nothing to hide. Kind of. Yes, you should be up front and personable via social media. However, you should not over-share either. Trade secrets, tedious company details, and your heartbreak over a recent break-up do NOT need to be disclosed. Rather share what is appropriate and engaging, share often, and always keep it professional.

Honesty and full disclosure is a necessary part to building a loyal reader base. They know they are supporting you by using your referral links. Make them happy and eager to do so.

If you are tweeting from your personal account about a fantastic company product, you need to share your connection to your company. Not only is that an ethical social media standard, but the FTC insists upon it.

Without a doubt, transparency is a fundamental part of most successful social media connections and campaigns. And your company’s willingness to be transparent in a way that customers have come to expect will only mean further brand loyalty in your future.

9 Wonderful Flu-Fighting Foods

Did you know that eating and drinking right can help boost your immune system?

 Power Eating

foods.png (210947 bytes)

We all know what flu season means — get a flu shot and do whatever you can to stay healthy. The foods (and teas) I have listed here can help you fend off the flu, and eat and drink well too.

Black-Eyed Peas

black eyed peas.png (94364 bytes)

These nutritious legumes are rich in zinc, a trace mineral that keeps your immune system in working order. Pinto beans, peanuts, roasted pumpkin seeds and wheat germ are other good choices.

Carrots

carrots.png (87902 bytes)

One of my favorites. They're rich in beta-carotene, which your body uses to ward off respiratory infections. Other good sources are dark green vegetables, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and winter squash.

Tea

tea.png (78335 bytes)

Hibiscus, Green, black and oolong tea all contain naturally occurring compounds that reduce the risk of flu, including quercetin, a powerful antioxidant, and L-theanine, an amino acid found only in tea. Decaf teas contain the amino acid, herbal teas don't.

Yogurt

yogurt.png (59956 bytes)

Probiotics, the beneficial bacteria found in yogurt and other fermented foods, strengthen the immune system. Not a fan of yogurt? Try cottage cheese, kimchi (a fermented Korean dish made of seasoned vegetables) or sauerkraut instead.

Tomatoes

tomatoes.png (83489 bytes)

Vitamin C-rich tomatoes boost the body's natural defense system in the same way their citrusy relatives do. One medium tomato provides 40 percent of your daily vitamin C, so have a glass of tomato juice at lunch and treat yourself to pasta with tomato sauce for dinner.

Mushrooms

mushrooms.png (116713 bytes)

These powerhouses increase the body's resistance to viral infections by boosting the activity of natural killer cells, a vital part of the immune system. Mushrooms are rich in selenium, low levels of which can increase the risk of developing a severe flu.

Almonds

almonds.png (41684 bytes)

These popular nuts are a rich source of the antioxidant vitamin E, which helps your body ward off viral infections. To maximize the absorption of vitamin E, opt for chopped almonds, almond butter or almond oil.

Chicken Soup

chicken soup.png (33480 bytes)

It may not prevent the flu, but a bowl or cup of soup can help your immune system fight off the virus in its early stages, thanks to a compound called carnosine. The only catch: You need to consume chicken soup throughout your illness to reap its benefit, says a 2012 study.

Wild Salmon

wild salmon.png (112598 bytes)

It's high in vitamin D, which the immune system needs to kill harmful bacteria and viruses, says John S. Adams, M.D., professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. Farm-raised salmon has less, but is also a good source.

Speaking the Truth in Love

CONFRONT THEM - IN LOVE

Sometimes love requires confronting people. But it must be done the right way, and only over the right issues. If you spend your life correcting people you'll finish up with no credibility, and no friends. At what point should you confront somebody? Only when you've answered these questions:

(a). Is it important? - If it involves a destructive habit, an abusive behavior, a major doctrinal error or a situation that could hurt them, it's important - get involved.

(b). Is it chronic? - If you observe the same thing happening over and over again. It doesn't have to big to get your love in gear.

(c). Have you earned the right to speak? - If casual acquaintance does something unwise, it's probably none of your business. But if someone close to you does it, it's both appropriate and loving to say, "That will hurt you."

Paul points out four things about love in 1Co 13:4-5 (NV):

1. "Love is not rude." - It doesn't use the "open-wide-while-I-jam-this-down your-throat" approach.

2. "Love is not self-seeking. ' - It forgets about the need to be accepted, and makes sure that what the other person hears is filtered only by kindness. It refuses to walk away having spoken half the truth.

3. "Love is not easily angered." - When you confront someone in love, don't be upset if you get an angry response like, "Who are you to tell me?" The right medicine doesn't taste good, but it heals.

4."Love keeps no record of wrongs." - When you have been hurt, it's critical that you deal with it and get it behind you. Only then can you confront someone for their own good. I hope this PR was inspirational to you.

5 Things Super Successful People Do Before 8 AM

Rise and shine! Morning time just became your new best friend. Love it or hate it, utilizing the morning hours before work may be the key to a successful and healthy lifestyle. That’s right, early rising is a common trait found in many CEOs, government officials, and other influential people. Margaret Thatcher was up every day at 5 a.m.; Frank Lloyd Wright at 4 a.m. and Robert Iger, the CEO of Disney wakes at 4:30 a.m. just to name a few. I know what you’re thinking - you do your best work at night. Not so fast! According to Inc. Magazine, morning people have been found to be more proactive and more productive. In addition, the health benefits for those with a life before work go on and on. Let’s explore 5 of the things successful people do before 8 a.m.

1. Exercise. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again. Most people that work out daily, work out in the morning. Whether it’s a morning yoga session or a trip to the gym, exercising before work gives you a boost of energy for the day and that deserved sense of accomplishment. Anyone can tackle a pile of paperwork after 200 ab reps! Morning workouts also eliminate the possibility of flaking out on your Cardio after a long day at work. Even if you aren’t bright eyed and bushy tailed at the thought of a 5 a.m. jog, try waking up 15 minutes early for a quick bedside set of pushups or stretching. It’ll help wake up your body, and prep you for your day.

2. Map Out Your Day.
Maximize your potential by mapping out your schedule for the day, as well as your goals and to dos. The morning is a good time for this as it is often one of the only quiet times a person gets throughout the day. The early hours foster easier reflection that helps when prioritizing your activities. They also allow for uninterrupted problem solving when trying to fit everything into your timetable. While scheduling, don’t forget about your mental health. Plan a 10-minute break after that stressful meeting for a quick walk around the block or a moment of meditation at your desk. Trying to eat healthy? Schedule a small window in the evening to pack a few nutritious snacks to bring to work the next day.

3. Eat a Healthy Breakfast.
We all know that rush out the door with a cup of coffee and an empty stomach feeling. You sit down at your desk, and you’re already wondering how early that taco truck sets up camp outside your office. Not good. Take that extra time in the morning to fuel your body for the tasks ahead of it. It will help keep you mind on what’s at hand and not your growling stomach.

Not only is breakfast good for your physical health, it is also a good time to connect socially. Even five minutes of talking with your kids or spouse while eating a quick bowl of oatmeal can boost your spirits before heading out the door.

4. Visualization. These days we talk about our physical health ad nauseam, but sometimes our mental health gets overlooked. The morning is the perfect time to spend some quiet time inside your mind meditating or visualizing. Take a moment to visualize your day ahead of you, focusing on the successes you will have. Even just a minute of visualization and positive thinking can help improve your mood and outlook on your workload for the day.

5. Make Your Day Top Heavy. We all have that one item on our to do list that we dread. It looms over you all day (or week) until you finally suck it up and do it after much procrastination. Here’s an easy tip to save yourself the stress - do that least desirable task on your list first. Instead of anticipating the unpleasantness of it from first coffee through your lunch break, get it out of the way. The morning is the time when you are (generally) better rested and your energy level is up. Therefore, you are better equipped to handle more difficult projects. And look at it this way, your day will get progressively easier, not the other way around. By the time your work day is ending, you’re winding down and heading into your free time more relaxed. Success!

Worry is a squatter; you must evict it.

In certain situation, if a house lies empty long enough, whoever likes can occupy it. Worry does that too. It roams around looking for an empty mind, then moves in. Has worry taken up residence in your mind today? Is it there when you wake up in the morning and go to bed at night?

As a follower of Christ you have the authority to serve worry an eviction notice and it must leave. The only thing that enables it to stay is your ignorance of that truth. When your mind is occupied with God's Word, worry sees a "no vacancy" sign and moves on.

Paul writes: "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2Co 10:3-5 NKJV).

The weapons God has given you to fight with are greater than the fears you face. But you must know your weapons, keep them in good repair and be able to use them.

"Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts: 'Because you speak this word, behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire, and ([your worries] wood, and it shall devour them'" (Jer 5:14 NKJV). When you believe God's Word with all your heart and begin to speak it in the face of your worries, "it shall devour them."

Some interesting online backup statistics were revealed from a recent survey. One of the most surprising was that a whopping two thirds of US citizens have no real understanding of just how important it is to backup their files, and what the consequences of a complacent attitude toward trusting the lifespan of their PC hard drives could be.
The general sense which could be ultimately read from the findings was that although online backup is growing at a phenomenal rate, there is still a vast amount of data out there which is not being backed up, and therefore not benefiting from superior levels of protection. It must be said that this is not entirely new knowledge, as there has been other surveys which have been conducted in the past which have shown similar patterns. Although a lack of interest in securing data—whether from negligence or ignorance—may be bad for consumers, this can be seen as good for the online backup industry as it shows there is room for considerable growth.

One unfortunate statistic that has again
cropped up is that a large number of people—fifty one percent, in fact!—have experienced complete data loss at one time or another. That statistic includes yours truly. This, as always, sounds like a lot, but when you consider that most people will continually use their computer until it’s on its last legs (even when the virtual grim reaper is near),

it’s not too hard to understand why. And it’s at this point that it may
die on them completely. Of course, sometimes a computer’s health can seem to be in check too, and then…game over. But not only is a computers diminishing health a prerequisite to complete failure, you also have to consider the likelihood of computer theft, damage and operator error.

If
you are one of these people who prefers to keep their head in the sand when it comes to the importance of online backup, just remember that fifty three percent of people in the survey reacted very badly—this included screaming and fits of anger! I refuse to tell you what I did.

Looking for small business success?

If you are new to entrepreneurship and are a first time small business owner, it can be an overwhelming and confusing task. Starting a new small business does not have to be OVERWHELMING or SCARY if you have a smart plan of action that drives the results you want. To increase your chances of small business success here are 5 “small business success tips” you’ll want to implement immediately.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
passion.jpeg (5423 bytes)
    Follow Your Passion. Yes you can build small business success doing something you love! Think about all the great skills, solutions and information you already know that others will be happy to pay for. If you have a passion for Real Estate and your dream business is to own a Real Estate Company – then go for it. But if everyone tells you how great you are at making pottery, you may not want to get into the Real Estate business as it may be a little out of your element! Go with your passion and go with what you know.
mentor.jpeg (4461 bytes)
    Find A Mentor. Every successful entrepreneur has a mentor.  Find someone who has already had the same or similar small business success you seek. It’s important to find people who have experienced what you want to do and ask them to guide you in the right direction. A mentor can help you avoid a number of unnecessary and costly mistakes. By modeling after someone who has already created the small business success you want, you get the benefit of avoiding many of the challenges and pitfalls they faced. Make sure you partner with a mentor who can truly and truthfully invest in your growth as a business owner.
goals.jpeg (5974 bytes)
    Get Clear on Your Goals. A small business success plan begins with defining your goals. Your small business should be built on the goals you want to accomplish. Why do you want to launch a business? What do you want to accomplish? What will building a successful business provide for your life? To have more money? To be able to spend more time with kids? To pay your monthly bills? To serve ad help others? In addition to knowing your WHY, you must know the HOW as well. How many “units” will you have to sell or “clients” will you have to acquire to meet your monthly revenue goals?
support.jpeg (19471 bytes)
    Get A Support System. Your first business will be an experience to say the least and you always want to have a support system of like-minded individuals to lean on. Building a successful business is a process. There will be ups and downs, failures and success and it will be great to have lots of supportive people in your corner. Whether it’s your family or a community of like-minded entrepreneurs, it will be to your benefit to have people who understand your drive, passion and vision.
persistance.jpg (21165 bytes)
    Be persistent. If your first small business idea doesn’t pan out or you find your progress is slower than you expected, keep pushing forward. Do not give up on your dream of entrepreneurship. If things are not going as planned, it’s not that your idea is not great, it’s that you may just lack the skills, training and marketing know-how to fuel the momentum you need to drive profits.
The most important thing to understand is that small business success takes time, dedication, consistency and a lot of hard work. Be prepared for the ride of your life but always remember the reason behind your decisions to start a business of your own. Your goal is to work smarter, not harder. This will allow you to build a profitable, thriving business that impacts not only your life, but also the lives of others.
You don’t want to waste your time learning from someone who doesn’t know how to make money online, and experience is a good way to separate knowledgeable teachers from fools. But experience making money online doesn’t make one wise—it can actually do the opposite. If you wanted to know about lions, who would you ask: a lion or a zoologist who has spent her life studying lions?
One problem with so-called experts who have made money online is that they made money online using a particular technique which may no longer apply. For example, I could teach you all about link buying—after all, it was working great eight years ago. But anyone who uses link buying today will be sorely disappointed. To teach how to make money online I would have to scrub this experience from my memory.
To avoid outdated information, maybe you want to read information about making money online from someone who is making money right now. But they too can offer bad information. The problem with success in any area is that, once you achieve it, it’s easy to maintain, so you get disconnected from the hard work it takes to acquire success in the first place.
Most people reading this don’t need to know how to maintain their success—they need to know how to become successful in the first place. Successful people can learn how to optimize their website from other successful people, but new website entrepreneurs need to learn how to get started building an income-generating business. That’s where a dedicated teacher can help, even if that teacher isn’t a successful online entrepreneur.
My Weekly Devotional - The Healthy Edge of Competition
We say things like, It's a rats race out there, and the rats are winning." "nice guys finish last," "Winning isn't everything; it's the only thing!"
Such sentiments characterize our culture, driving workaholic lifestyles that destroy health, fracture family life, and eliminate the spiritual discipline required to have a growing relationship with God. S
o what should we do? Avoid all competition? Opt out of the rat race? Retire and watch the world go by? No, those are not options for a follower of Christ. So:
1. Beware of competitiveness that leads to jealousy. Cain's competitiveness toward his brother Abel led him to murder (See Ge 4: 1-8). He tried to put his brother down in order to lift himself up. King Saul tried to kill David when the crowd sang, "Saul has slain thousands, and David his ten thousands" (
1Sa 18:6-11 NKJV).
Those words caused jealousy to grow like a cancer in him.
2. Understand that by seeking to excel in your calling, you exalt Christ. Paul writes: "You've...seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard...for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You're after one that's gold eternally" (1Co 9:24-25 TM). No second-rate effort, no settling for mediocre outcomes. "I'm running hard for the finish line. I'm giving it everything I've got. No sloppy living for me. I'm staying alert and in top condition" (1Co 9:26 TM).
Getting ahead of others isn't what it's about; it's about maximizing all you for God's glory! "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men" (Col 3:23 NIV)
Whether you're eating out or grocery shopping, you can dine frugally and finely.
1. Fine wine savings
Find bargain-priced wine at the Accidental Wine Company. As
the name implies, much of its inventory has had "a little accident,"
like a blemished label or maybe a discontinued bottle design. Both sales
costs and shipping are discounted.
2. Cheap eats
You'll find many inexpensive dining options in most college
towns. College students are always short on funds, so street vendors and
frugal-food peddlers inevitably set up shop near campuses.
3. Sprout new savings
Grow romaine lettuce by putting the "stub" (the bottom inch or
two) in a glass of water near a sunny window. You can do the same thing
with celery, spring onions, napa cabbage, bok choy and similar
vegetables. For best results, cut a thin layer off the stub first.
4. Weigh your options
If you need only a few vegetables or fruits for a recipe or
meal, buying a small amount at the supermarket salad bar may be cheaper
than buying a bag of precut vegetables.
5. Use the wrapper
Reuse empty butter or margarine wrappers to grease a baking
pan. You can store unused wrappers in the freezer in a sealed plastic
bag.
6. Home fans
Many restaurants such as Papa John's or Domino's offer
discounts on pizza when the area's professional sports teams win. Look
for a promo code to use when ordering by phone or online.
7. Eating out
Go out for lunch instead of dinner. Lunch entrees and
appetizers are typically 25 percent to 50 percent cheaper than dinner
items, and the portions are sometimes just as big. Breakfast is even
cheaper.
8. Champagne taste
Save on bubbly by opting for sparkling wines like cava and prosecco, which are often cheaper than genuine French champagne.
On average, an adult can touch as many as 30 objects within the span of a minute, including germ-harboring, high-traffic surfaces such as light switches, doorknobs, phone receivers and remote controls.
At home, you do all you can to keep germs at bay. But what happens when you go out to dinner, do some grocery shopping, travel or visit the doctor's office? If you know where germs are most likely to lurk, you can protect yourself. I personally carry a bottle of hand sanitizer. Do you have any other suggestions?
*****************************
doctorsoffice.jpg (20037 bytes)
1. Doctors' Offices
A doctor's office is not the place to be if you're trying to avoid germs. To limit your exposure: Bring your own books and magazines (and toys, if you have your children or grandchildren with you) and pack your own tissues and hand sanitizers, which should have an alcohol content of at least 60 percent. If possible, in the waiting room, leave at least two chairs between you and the other patients to reduce your chances of picking up their bugs. Germ droplets from coughing and sneezing can travel about 3 feet before falling to the floor.
*****************************
grocerycarts.jpg (20037 bytes)
2. Grocery Carts
The handles of almost two-thirds of the shopping carts tested in a
2007 study at the University of Arizona were contaminated with fecal bacteria. In fact, the bacterial counts of the carts exceeded those of the average public restroom. To protect yourself: Swab the handle with a disinfectant wipe before grabbing hold (stores are starting to provide them, so look around for a dispenser). And while you're wheeling around the supermarket, skip the free food samples, which are nothing more than communal hand-to-germ-to-mouth zones.
*****************************
condiments.jpg (20037 bytes)
3. Soap Dispensers
About 25 percent of public restroom dispensers are contaminated with fecal bacteria. Soap that harbors bacteria may seem ironic, but that's exactly what a University of Arizona study found. "Most of these containers are never cleaned, so bacteria grow as the soap scum builds up," says microbiologist Charles Gerba, PhD., who directed the study.
"And the bottoms are touched by dirty hands, so there's a continuous culture feeding millions of bacteria." Be sure to scrub your hands thoroughly with plenty of hot water for 15 to 20 seconds — and if you happen to have an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, use that, too.
****************************
condiments.jpg (20037 bytes)
4. Restroom Door Handles
Don't think you can escape the restroom without touching the door
handle? Palm a spare paper towel after you wash up and use it to grasp the handle. Yes, other patrons may think you're a germaphobe — but you'll never see them again, and you're the one who won't get sick.
*****************************
condiments.jpg (20037 bytes)
5. Condiment Dispensers
It's the rare eatery that regularly cleans its condiment containers.
And the reality is that many people don't wash their hands before
eating, says Kelly Reynolds, PhD., a germs specialist and public health professor at the University of Arizona. So while you may be diligent, the guy who poured the ketchup before you may not have been, which means his germs are now on your fingers — and your fries. Squirt hand sanitizer on the outside of the condiment bottle or use a disinfectant wipe before you grab it.
*****************************
lemonwedges.jpg (20037 bytes)
6. Lemon Wedges
According to a 2007 study in the Journal of Environmental Health,
nearly 70 percent of the lemon wedges perched on the rims of restaurant glasses contain disease-causing microbes. When the researchers ordered drinks at 21 different restaurants, they found 25 different microorganisms lingering on the 76 lemons they secured, including E. coli and other fecal bacteria. Tell your server that you'd prefer your beverage sans fruit. Why risk it?
*****************************
airplanerestrooms.jpg (20037 bytes)
7. Airplane Bathrooms
When microbiologist Charles Gerba, PhD., tested for microbes in the bathrooms of commercial jets, he found surfaces from faucets to doorknobs to be contaminated with E. coli. It's not surprising, then, that people often get sick after traveling by plane. Clean your hands thoroughly with a sanitizer and try not to directly touch the surfaces.
*****************************
airplanerestrooms.jpg (20037 bytes)
8. Restaurant Menus
Have you ever seen anyone wash a menu? Probably not. A study in the Journal of Medical Virology reported that cold and flu viruses cansurvive for 18 hours on hard surfaces. If it's a popular restaurant, hundreds of people could be handling the menus — and passing their germs on to you. Never let a menu touch your plate or silverware, and be sure to wash your hands after you place your order.
Web Designing - What's on the Dark Side?
The majority of sites on the ’Net have light-colored backgrounds, as it can improve readability for the end-user and helps designers differentiate on-page content with the use of contrasting colors. This is a perfectly good strategy – if you like to play it safe.
If you'd rather push the envelope, it might be time to consider taking a walk on the dark side of Web design. By spicing things up with a darker design, you can set your digital property apart from the competition. A dark background can prove to be more memorable with your audience and can even be leveraged to showcase your products better when executed correctly. On the other hand, a poorly designed dark site could do just the opposite, appearing too busy and even end up pushing away your audience.
So before taking a walk on the dark side, make sure to take into consideration the unique design challenges that a darker background brings. Start by taking a look at a few companies who have implemented a dark design without impacting the usability or performance of their digital property:
1. Smashbox
smashboxdarkdes.png
This beauty company stays true to its brand’s colors of black and white by featuring a black background paired with white font for excellent readability. And although some e-commerce stores feature a dark background on their landing pages, not many actually carry the darkness throughout their entire sites like Smashbox does. Even the company’s product listing pages feature a black background with products highlighted in clean white boxes.
2. Taco Bell
tacobelldarkdes.png
The company that asks its customers to think outside the bun thinks outside the box when it comes to site design. By using a dark background on its landing page, Taco Bell ensures that visitors are drawn directly to its featured attention-grabbing images.
3. Whole Foods
wholefoodsdarkdes.png
Whole Food’s site may be lighter than the two previous examples, but it still pushes the rules of Web design by using an image-rich background. In fact, this theme is carried throughout the entire site. Because of this, the company highlights all content in a light-colored box so that it does not have to compete with the background for attention.
4. Renaissance Hotels
renaissancedarkdes.png
The Renaissance Hotel website takes a unique design approach, especially for the hospitality industry. Not only is the site’s background dark, but also full of images that enable visitors to discover unique things about the company’s properties. Instead of focusing on the bookings like typical hotel sites, Renaissance makes its site more of a discovery platform for the end-user.
5. AlienBikes
alienbikesdarkdes.png
This Norwegian e-commerce site not only does a great job at highlighting its products against a dark background, but it also excels at keeping its dark design simple. The important product information is easy to find and read, and the product prices are even highlighted in yellow, which makes them extremely visible to visitors.
