So, you have made it this far and you are on your way to becoming the top player of your game. It does not matter if you are an internet marketing beginner on your way to becoming an internet marketing “guru” or an operations manager or a Fortune 500 company and aspiring to the position of Senior VP, it will never be too soon to learn the art of knowing how to lead.
I believe that whatever you choose to do in life, the ability to take charge lies within you. You have to decide if you are going to be a leader or a follower. I made a choice in my life years ago to be a great follower. That did not work for me because there were times when the people I chose to follow flexed their power which changed the directions of my becoming successful. I had to stop the ship, if you will, and set sail on a different path and decided to learn the art of leading instead of being a follower.
If you think about it, leadership has nothing to do with a job title. There are those people who were born to lead. We all know a few. They have CEO written all over them. |

It has been my experience that it is much easier to teach people who are eager to learn than those who are not so eager. People who strive for excellence are more likely to bet on people who also strive for excellence as well and not those who are second-rate performers. Someone once said that average is the best of the worst and worst of the best. So, as you fashion a stronger, more successful business, keep three points in mind. First, strive for excellence in everything you do. See the wisdom in the old saying, “If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” All work is important and should be performed in the best manner possible. Just remember that you will make more money when you are an excellent performer. On top of that, you will enjoy more satisfaction which is the source of the real wealth you seek. Second, detest thinking average. Thinking average will never help you realize your dreams. No kid likes to say, “My dad is an average dad or my mom is an average mom.” Taking it a step further, no boss wants to tell his superior, “Don or Judy is an average salesperson,” and no one will ever brag about you if you look, think, talk, and act as an average person does. It seems that everywhere you turn there is always someone trying to steal your dreams. They will ask, “What project are you working on now? Why are you doing that? You can’t make any money doing that. You need to squash that and come with me. You don’t need any more money- you just have to learn to work with what you have.” Do these lines sound familiar? I have heard them so many times from family, friends and associates. These people are what I call dream stealers. If you are low on self-confidence, they will steal your dreams right out from under you! You feel like your personal space has just been invaded.
Think about this. Someone has broken into your house, rifled through your personal things and ripped you off. You felt cheated, violated! But, no matter how terrible you felt or how angry you got, you were powerless to do anything about it. That is how we feel when someone steals something from us. Yet most of us think nothing of it when others come into our lives and steal something priceless and precious as our dreams. When I first started out in the business of MLM and Network Marketing, I started out calling all of my family members, close friends and associates and co-workers. I just knew they were a sure thing. Wrong! I could not believe the responses I was receiving from them. They were so negative! Actually, they were beyond negative, if there is such a thing. People would say things like, “Stick with your day job, impossible, that thing will never work, that is a pyramid, and what makes you think you can be in business for yourself?” There were other things said like, “You don’t have any skills. I knew somebody who was trying to do what you are doing and failed. You better be careful!” That was more than enough to shake my confidence to the core. Believe it or not, our attitudes play an important role in whether or not we reach the level of success that we want for ourselves. Let me ask you this. How many of us, especially American born, would be will to do just about anything to realize our goals and dreams? Will we be willing to dig ditches, scrub floors, clean toilets, flip burgers, fry chicken, or drive a school bus? Will we be worried about what our friends would say or think about us? Think about that!
If these were some of the things we needed to do to reach our goals and we were not willing to do them because of what others might say or think, then I call this having false pride. It will keep many of us at the bottom because we are not willing to do whatever it takes to do what needs to be done so that we can be, do, and have what our tomorrows have to offer.

There is a mistake that is common among networkers, and that is to think they have found their big leaders among the first few people they sponsor. I remember when I first got into MLM and saw the marketing plan, I thought to myself, “piece of cake!” Right? – Wrong!! All I had to do was sponsor five or six people and I would have it made.
