Mothers Day In The UK

Today I am dedicating my blog post to all mothers in the UK – those that are still with us and those that are now departed.  My mother passed away in 1995 – March 31st – so 19 years ago tomorrow.  I still miss her so much and this song came to mind while I was thinking about her.

Some Facts About Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is when we all want to show our appreciation for what our mother’s have done for us over the years.  But where did it come from and why?

• Mother’s Day can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honour of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods.
• Mothering Sunday was celebrated on the 4th Sunday of Lent in England during the 17th Century.
• Mother’s Day was a time for relaxing and enjoyment during the long Lenten fast.  Also historically, this special day was an opportunity for young servant girls who worked away from home to have the day of to visit their mothers.  They would bake a Simnel Cake and take that as a present for them.  Their gift to their mothers.
• During this time children as young as 20 years old would leave home and start work or take on an apprenticeship and Mother’s Day was the only time during the whole year that families could get together and that is why Mother’s Day became a public holiday in the 17th Century.
• It was also said that centuries ago people would return to their home of Mother Church just once a year during the period of Lent and this is where Mother’s Day came from.
• Now in Northern England and in Scotland, the most preferred snacks were Carlings – which are pancakes that are  made of steeped pease fried in butter with an adding of salt and pepper.  Still today some places still call this Carling Sunday !!
• With the Simnel Cake it was said that it was a way to test a girl’s skills as a cook !!  If it stayed moist and kept its taste until Easter Sunday then she was classed as a good cook.
• It has been said that Mother’s Day is the largest event in the UK’s cut flower industry and I can well believe that !  Sales during this time soar by an average of 40% which is great news for florists …….
• It is also one of the most popular day of the year for eating out !!  I went for a meal with my children today and I have to say I agree with that.  Everywhere you looked it was packed full.  I first thought people were just getting lazy for cooking on a Sunday ….  alas no, it is because it is Mother’s Day …….

Anyway I hope all you mums had a good day and were spoilt rotten as was I.  These are very precious moments we treasure when our children show how much they appreciate you.

Looking like a market leader is very attainable for any company with the right goals, focus and tactics. When I first started out in SEO a few years ago, there was a big hurtle to get around. Since we were positioning ourselves as an SEO company we had to show up at the top of the rankings for our own keywords or it would be very difficult for people to trust their ranking with us. Results are the only thing that matters.

So how did we do it? We acted very tactical. When we first started out the company was based out of a mid sized town of just over 100,000 people.  We targeted the hardest keywords ‘seo’ and ‘marketing’ but we focused on owning the keywords in the market we were in. We knew ranking for the keywords of the large nearby cities would take way too long and the competitors were way more advanced. With this in mind we set a target of getting the top position in 6 months. This may not sound difficult but there aren’t many keywords harder to rank for than ones that revolve around the search engine industry.

To accomplish this we gave lectures to small businesses at the entrepreneurship and business development institutes. We also made strategic partnerships with larger firms that were great at designing and sales but did not necessarily have the technical knowledge we possessed. We were also very open about our knowledge, and giving it away for free in blogs and lectures. All of these tactics put together helped grow our business and our rankings. Once this was accomplished we were the market leader, all that anyone had to do was Google us and see who came up first for proof.

How Can You Look Like An Industry Leader?

The first step is to give away your knowledge for free. Just make sure you don’t do any work for free – there is a difference. Giving away your knowledge in the form of blogs, and lectures allows you to showcase how much of an expert you are on the topic.

Even with a potential customer having all of your knowledge does not mean they will be able to do what you do as well as you. They may give it a try, find out how difficult it actually is, (no matter how much you simplify it), they may not have the sufficient time to adequately do it, or they may not enjoy it as much as they do running their own company. But the fact is that they will remember you are an expert and hopefully you have convinced the how important them what you do is, so they will realize that it is essential and they will need your help to carry out the tasks.

If blogging or lecturing isn’t your thing consider video blogging or reaching out to reporters to let them know that you are there to help if they need an expert opinion on a story.

Other great ways of showcasing that you are an industry leader is by offering content that other people in your industry can use in their own work. This can be free photography, embeddable charts that they can use on their site. With photography asking for attribution is standard don’t be afraid to ask for credit. With graphs and charts make it easy for them to input it on their website by wrapping them with an embed code that they can just paste in their website. When they embed your work it will give credit to your site too.

Case studies can tell a story of how successful a campaign or project is.

They can readily document any scenario and analyze events or difficult situations. They will identify the issues and concerns and propose solutions. They can then chart the progress of the actions until it’s drawn a solid conclusion.

You can help your customers to not only understand the problem at hand, you can also help them to resolve the problem.

Why should you include case studies on your website?

Case studies are a prime example of your expertise. They’ll include keywords that apply to your industry.

One of the most effective methods to get your website featured highly in online search engines is to have plenty of keywords. These are the words that people will plug into the search engine box in order to find products or services. They may include a main sales item and your location.

Instead of randomly cluttering your website with keywords, you should include them naturally in the text. It’s always a great idea to have a copywriter on board. A copywriter will posses the skills to assure your web copy is grammatically correct and relevant and readable. The copywriter will also be in charge of optimization of your copy to incorporate keywords that will help your site to reach the top of the listings.

Document sharing sites like SharePoint will help you to create and edit as well as store case studies. If you’re going to create multiple case studies you can put them into a template to assure their consistency in formating and content.

SharePoint is an especially useful tool when you have more than one person contributing to your single case study. Documenting changes can readily be tracked even if the document is being used by many different users.

How to put together a case study

To begin with, It’s very important to summarize the background of the situation.

Giving an overview of the customer’s situation and what their achievement goal is. This gives an opportunity to mention things that may have previously been tried, but not worked well.

Describe the approach that was taken and why it was chosen. It’s always helpful to include any facts and figures as well as to share genuine examples. Case studies are ideal for showcasing skills.

When an outcome has been reached, it’s not enough to just say that it was successful. Potential customers wish to know how it was achieved.

Case Studies should gently persuade

The best part of case studies is that they show off your capabilities without coming across to others as a hard sell.

They avoid hype and self promotion if they’re done right. The goal is for the reader to connect with the story as it is unfolding. Try to avoid jargon or sales pitches as this can become wearisome and a turn off to the reader.

Commercial environments case studies are the perfect way to show off new products or explain services. They can be long or short as required and providing they convey the facts, everyone should be happy. Report events in chronological order or in a logical sequence.

Focus on benefits

In order to get the most out of a case study, always concentrate on the way it will benefit the customer.

How the product will benefit them. Will it make their job easier? Will it have any implications on future business?

Even though you should avoid a call to action at the end of the case study, you’ll want to add in the contact information and include links to other studies. Testimonials and pertinent information can be utilized to encourage the readers to explore the site further.

The image your company portrays will always have a huge impact on your success rate, and this, you probably know by now. The flat design has proven to become more favourable to the virtual audience and this is more than enough reason for web owners to adopt it. The design is simpler, with the absence of certain components of web design that have been of some use for the last few years. The gradients, texture and drop shadows are only some of the things that have not been adopted by flat design. Also, they have bid goodbye to the good old days when colourful is beautiful as the flat design uses colours which are more solid and typography that will match the chosen hue. So since there are so many variations included in this most up-to-date design, don’t you think it is time that you consider redesigning?

You Need An Accountability Partner

Have You Ever Heard Of The Saying “Fire Lights Fire”?

If you light a match and it doesn’t have another match to transfer its fire to then it will just burn out.

Well it is the same with people.  If you don’t have someone to transfer your fire to then the chances are that you will also burn out !!

So just a little bit of very important advice – and that is to find yourself an accountability partner – perhaps you could start a group on Facebook or whatever social media site you prefer. By having an accountability partner (or a few in a group) you can hold each other accountable for all your goals and dreams.

Draw up a goal chart and share it with each other once a week.  If you do this then it will keep you on track for achieving your goals.

You could also have a weekly conference call where you can share your results and let others know what is working for you or what is not working for you.  By doing this you are all keeping each other on track.

Another important aspect is to always try and attend events.  You never know you could find your accountability partner at one of these events and I know from experience by attending events it gives you much more motivation and determination to set your goals and reach for them.

The hardest part of starting a business for most people (that also included me at one time a few years ago) is actually “STARTING” – it can be very scary but once you have made up your mind to get started and found that accountability partner then you are on your way to success …..

Before you join an online marketing/affiliate company there are a number of things you should ask yourself:

You Have To ……

You Have To Believe In Your Company

• Are they honest, ethical, capable of making good business decisions, do they do what they say they are going to do, are they loyal, are they professional and are they likeable.  All of these things must be in place for you to trust them.
• Products – are they of high quality, are the prices competitive, do they have a good support team and do they update their products.
• Comp Plan – you have to believe the comp plan will make you money.  Is it a fair comp plan.  Do they have good incentives.  These all form good habits.
• Professional – Some people think saying MLM. Is embarrassing.  If someone asks you what you do are you ok saying you are in MLM or are you embarrassed?  If you are embarrassed this will hold you back and you are unlikely to be successful.
• Marketing System – Having a marketing system with even a little people can be successful.  With SMS anyone can do this because even the big guys are using it as well.  do you believe it works?  Is it simple enough? Could a non techi person do this?  Is it duplicatable?  Can others duplicate your results?  Can you get leads?  I can honestly say yes to all of these with the Simple Money System and Pure Leverage.
• Upline – Do you get support from your upline?  Are they there for you?  Are they always available to talk to?  Do they lead by example?
• Culture – Is it a strong healthy culture that resonates with you?  Some companies have a great business model but the culture of the company doesn’t resonate with you.  It is extremely important for you to resonate with a company.
• Lastly YOU – Do you believe in yourself?  Do you have a WHY ?  Is your WHY strong enough to pull you through?  Do you believe you have the time and the skills?  (You have to make the time) and do you believe you are persistent?

There are 168 hours in a week and statistics show that an average person spends 56 hours sleeping, 40 hours working and 35 hours eating, showering, travelling etc which leaves 37 hours spare.  Is that not enough time to persue your dreams?  Once you have found the right company and have your dreams and a strong why then you will always find the time to reach your goals.  This is where The Simple Money System can help….

Are you caught in a trap by that terrible disease called the S.O.S.

S.O.S. Is like a terrible disease out their in the internet business that could be crippling your business and there are many of us out there who suffer from it….

So what is the S.O.S.?

Shiny Object Syndrome !

It is a disease that affects our brain.  I also had this disease a short while ago the same as many other people out there.  You always think the grass is greener on the other side WRONG….  So what is the symptom?  It is someone who jumps from one opportunity to another and buys the next too good to br true tool or coaching programme.

RESULT =  frustrated and depressed thinking that nothing will work for you.  You have to stop this insanity from going from one good thing to another and FOCUS on just one thing until you become successful.  Stay focused and become good at it.

Doing too many and it will all fall down but focus on just one thing and you will get good at it and it will become easier to do and therefore you will gain momentum.  You will GROW – so get to work on your one thing and see the difference.

i learnt the hard way but am now seeing the difference by not having the S.O.S. Disease.

Can An Online Business Really Work For You?

Have you seen the super hyped up ads about making it rich overnight on the Internet?

Sure we all have.

Do you believe it?

Most people don't and with good reason...anything that promises over-night riches is just not true.  It's pretty obvious and the old saying is true... "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Here is the problem though... Even though there is an element of the "Too Good To Be True" Crowd out there... making a great income online IS VERY POSSIBLE.  However the riches don't come over night.

But you can get rich online if you really want it.  That is a fact and it's not just super talented geeky people that were in the right time and right place.

It's people just like you and I who realized there is something better out there and see the power and potential of the Internet.

Now getting rich isn't going to happen overnight but here is what is pretty cool... making a great income faster is very common on the Internet.

Why?

Because of the reach the Internet has.  Because of the ease of products and services that can be delivered.  This truly is a global business.

So how do you avoid the fraudsters out there and stick with the proven systems and programs that work?  Here are 6 tips to help you on the right path...

1. Look for a business that promotes solid products.

The way a person makes money online is by selling a product or service to others.  This can be a physical or digital product.  Some type of transaction has to take place.  The product you promote needs to be something that people will purchase even if there was not an opportunity behind it.  The products need to be high quality and reputable.  The best products will be consumable or subscription based so that customers order each and every month.

2. Beware of hyped up claims and promises.

These are rampant online and they are usually easy to spot.  Go with your gut feeling.  However I do want to point out something VERY important.  Regular people have been able to make great incomes on line in a short period of time.  Don't automatically discount these as scams.  Here is an example.  One of my mentors who decided to look online for a solution, worked really hard his first 2 months and made $40,000 promoting affiliate products.  Hen then went on to triple his income at his corporate job in 9 months.  There are many many other examples just like this online and they are real.

You will know when something is real when it involves actually work and dedication.

3. Look for solid leadership

Take a look at the company you are getting involved with and look at the leaders.  Do they practice what they preach?  Do they do what they say they are going to do?  They they promote hard work and give realistic expectations?  Do they inspire you to be better?  That is the kind of product and company you want to be involved with.

4. Believe

You really need to understand and believe that you CAN make a great income online and there are thousands and thousands of every day people who do.  You need to stay away from the obvious scams but at the same time you need to understand that most ARE real.  Many times though if you are so skeptical of everything you will never believe in an opportunity or in yourself.  Many times this is the biggest challenge of all.

5.  Look for an opportunity that pays you for a long time.

There are many ways to make money on the Internet.  Sometimes there are temporary tricks that work for a short time that can bring in great incomes...but they are soon gone.  Google changes the rules or some other type of issue happens.  Look for products or opportunities that will be around for a long time and more importantly...will pay you monthly income for a long time to come.

6.  Find a marketing system that you and anyone else can follow and implement.

One of the biggest questions you may have about your new business is, "What will I be doing on a daily basis?"   This is a critical to know as you need to be able to do something that is simple yet effective.  Also if you expect others to do the same thing it needs to be what we call duplicatable.   A simple rule is this... "If a 5th grader can do it...then it's simple enough to duplicate."

Having a powerful but simple system is critical for an online business to work for you or anyone.
