Do You Belong?

“Now you are no longer strangers to God and foreigners to heaven, but you are members of God’s very own family, citizens of God’s country, and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian” (Ephesians 2:19 TLB).


Why is belonging so important?

“Because as humans, we need to belong. To one another, to our friends and families, to our culture and country, to our world. Belonging is primal, fundamental to our sense of happiness and well-being” (CNN Columnist Amanda Enayati, The Importance of Belonging )

In his “Hierarchy of Needs,” the atheist psychologist, Abraham Maslow, got at least one thing right. He named “belonging” as one of the most basic needs of humanity.  Only physiological and safrty needs such ad food, water, air, and shelter were higher on his scale of needd. Maslow thought that the need for belonging had to be met before one could have self-esteem and what he called “self-actualization.”

Maslow’s psychological theory recognized what others had claimed for centuries, that humans have an innate need for belonging. Yet, this awareness of the need does not explain its origin. From where does our need for belonging come?

Augustine of Hippo, (Third Century) said, “Thou hast made us for Thyself, O God, a

nd our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee.” Augustine believed that God made us with this desire for connection.

Before Augustine, Jesus prayed that this divine connection would be restored, not just between man and God, but also between believers.

Jesus prayed, “I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they

 may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity” (John 17:20-23 NIV).

Christ’s prayer is being answered. When we believe in Him and are adopted into God’s family.

Yet, the three enemies of this oneness remain active. The flesh, the world and the devil, all continue to work to divide and isolate us from God and His family

Their voices are loud. They scream of hatred and racism. They point out our differences and the hypocrisies of others. They urge us to get even and never forgive. They push us to pull awa

Jesus calls us to Belong to one another!!y, to abandon, to divorce, and even to kill.

Be Springtime!

I was talking to my daughter in Nashville, TN last night and she was describing the beauty of Spring in the city. New life, fresh flowers, lovely weather and the like.

Many years ago the people of Judah were carried off into captivity and languished for several decades in Babylon—far away from their homeland, from their traditions, from their temple. Miles of desert separated them from anything familiar. Spirits were crushed, identity shattered, faith challenged.

It was a cold, brutal Winter for them!

This was a crucial time of self-examination and repentance . Now Spring was in the air! The Lord was drawing a sharp dividing line between past and future. That was then; this is now. 

" I am doing a new thing, creating a path through the desert. "

Isaiah 43:18-19

God still does new things for His people today. Have you’ve been dwelling on past mistakes. Now God tells you, “Forget about it! Let Me do something new with you.”

Newness can be scary.  Change can be unsettling!

It is easy to cling to our old ways. Sometimes even our old regrets can feel familiar; but we must be willing to embrace the future and make the necessary adjustments that God wants. Forgetting the past requires mental and spiritual discipline. It takes faith to step forward into God’s new direction.

Think of the people you see every day, weighed down by past regrets. Sometimes you see it in their physical appearance—they seem to carry the weight on their shoulders—but sometimes you just sense it. How can you ease that burden? How can you be an agent of God’s newness? Are there people you need to forgive? Do you need to make it clear to them that they are forgiven? Are there others who just need the reassurance of God’s forgiveness for mistakes they have made? Be God's agent of change and springtime!

You just might save someone's life and give them purpose. By the way it just might change your business too.

What's Your Mindset?



Are you an employee with a job or a business owner? Being an employee means that you are working for someone else, and that means long hours of work and minimum wages. In a job no one becomes rich because all the big bucks is going to the owner of the business or if it is a government agency then it goes to the US government.

From experience you should know that you have bills and living expenses to pay so guess what you can't stop working, you cannot afford to take any vacations and if your boss does give you a vacation it is only 1 week and you are lucky if you get two weeks but that is rarely the case.

A business owner becomes rich because they know the two forms of income they need in order to have financial freedom.
Residual Income

Residual Income allows you to make money for ever because you do something only once and that continues to make money for example Julia Child wrote a book that took her years to finish called " Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and at first it was turned down by lots of publishing companies because it is very lengthy but once it was published it just makes money forever, I mean Julia Child is dead but her cookbooks continue making money because they are selling. So if you create an amazing product and you are able to sell it you continue to make money.

Leverage Income

You make money when you have a group of people working for you. That is if you have a business and you hire a group of employees to work for you then of course you make money because in 24 hours everyday there is only so much work you can do but if you have a group of 10 people who do a very excellent job you will make even more money.

Does It Really Matter?


A few days a go I got up early and went for my brisk morning walk to Yahamacraw Beach. It was an exhilarating walk and I was feeling refreshed and strong enough to break iron. My spirits were up and I was mentally alert and positive .

On the way home I decided to stop at he local grocery store for some breakfast items: bread, milk, fruits and milk. It was all going great until I reached the bread rack... I could not find a loaf of bread with the price on it. I had to choose three different brand and take them to the register to get a price. To say the least, I was annoyed .

This was the fourth time in the last three months I had complained to store representatives about the need to price their merchandise for the convenience of their customers. Obviously, it's not a priority for the owners and managers of the major grocery store. I wonder if customer service matters or simply getting the customer's money!

To add injury to insult, when I went to the cashier, she paid me no attention at all. One cashier was busy chatting with her colleagues while the other was too busy daydreaming. I had to go to a third cashier at the "Customer Service" Desk to get the price of the three loaves of bread and pay for my groceries. Of course I told the representative that the cashiers probably were not ready to deal with customers so early in the day and that may be I should visit the store at a later time.

Are Your Health Goals on Target?


Recently, Pastor Mario Moxey at Bahamas Harvest Church,  here in Nassau, challenged us to be good stewards of our bodies. He noted that taking care of our physical health is “a spiritual discipline.”  So how do we practice such discipline?
It’s easy for me to tell you to eat healthy, exercise, meditate and relax more, but we all know doing it consistently is hard.  We need to set SMART goals and take action. SMART goals are  Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound.  So here are four tips to help you keep on track with your health and fitness goals:
1) Make a Plan: Before you can do anything, you need to make a plan.  This helps put the intention firmly in your mind and part of your memory.  You can make a plan by visualizing what you plan to do and how you are going to do it or by writing it down step-by-step. I suggest you write it down, review it often and share it.
The more detailed you are with your plan, the more likely you’ll stick with it.  Just saying you’ll go to the gym is not enough.  Try being specific by planning to go to the gym at 5:30 and attending the step class on Monday.
2) Put Something of Value on the Line: There are two ways to do this.  The first way is to set aside money that you’ll give away if you fail to maintain your goal.  The second way is to exercise with a friend.  Studies show that people are less likely to cancel on a friend than they are on themselves.
3) Bundle Your Temptations:  This tip involves combining things you don’t like with things you love.  Say you love reading novels or watching a certain TV show on your iPad, but don’t love the gym.  Tell yourself you can ONLY watch the TV show while you are on the cardio machines at the gym.

4) Seek Social Support: Research shows you can achieve mo

 friends, a mentor, a trainer or even a F
book group that has the same goals you have.  I have my wife to nudge me and the alarm clock to be motivation.

Dark Chocolate Good for the Heart?

Researchers also found that increasing the flavanol content didn’t change this effect. 

“We provide a more complete picture of the impact of chocolate consumption in vascular health and show that increasing flavanol content has no added beneficial effect on vascular health,” report study authors. “However, this increased flavanol content clearly affected taste and thereby the motivation to eat these chocolates. So the dark side of chocolate is a healthy one.” 

In addition to benefiting heart health, research shows that consuming moderate amounts of high-quality dark chocolate may also help improve mood and may even aid weight loss. When it comes to chocolate, the darker the better—and limit consumption to one to two ounces a day.
